POSITION SUMMARY:
The Nurse Practitioner – RN (Extended Class) is an integral member of the interdisciplinary health care team within the Acute Care programs, specializing in skin and wound care services. Utilizing advanced nursing expertise, clinical reasoning, and critical thinking, the Nurse Practitioner delivers comprehensive care to individuals throughout the lifespan, families, and communities. This role emphasizes health promotion, disease prevention, and evidence-based practice within the full scope of RN (EC) responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The nurse practitioner will function in the following domains:
•Provide direct clinical care to patients within the Acute Care programs, with a focus on specialty skin and wound management.
•Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of skin and wound care education for nursing staff. Share expertise with fellow Nurse Practitioners and front-line nurses to build capacity and foster excellence in wound care
•Contribute to program development and quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient outcomes and service delivery.
•Apply current evidence-based practices and best practice guidelines to ensure high standards of care and continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•Current registration in the Registered Nurse-Extended Class (RN-EC) with the College of Nurses of Ontario, either as an NP-ACUTE/Primary Health Care, is required.
•Masters in Nursing required
•Three (3) years recent related clinical nursing experience in wound care preferred
•Proof of successful completion of controlled substances education required
•RNAO membership (preferred)
•Graduate of the International Interdisciplinary Wound Care Course (IIWCC) University of Toronto or Advanced Wound Care program (preferred)
•Eligible for credentialing through the hospital medical board
•Demonstrated expertise and comprehensive knowledge in wound care
•Demonstrated self-directed decision making and problem-solving skills required.
•Proven leadership and management capabilities
•Strong organizational, analytical, conceptual, and communication skills
•Experience in quality improvement strategies
•Excellence in interpersonal skills and team collaboration
