The School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) is seeking to hire a Research Fellow
- To support the research activities of the centre in nonlinear optics, spectroscopy, metrology and random lasing related projects.
- Perform research in experimental optics, nonlinear optics, random lasing, spectroscopy, metrology and develop novel approaches for optical and nonlinear optical experiments and instrumentation. The position offers the opportunity to do research work in collaboration with external partners.
Key Responsibilities:
The RF will support focused research activities at COLE. He/ She will assist the Principal Investigators (PIs) in the successful execution of the projects and will also be encouraged to introduce new ideas and projects. The roles of this position include:
- Perform research in experimental optics, nonlinear optics, random lasing, spectroscopy and develop novel approaches to optical and nonlinear measurement technologies, and instrumentation.
- Conduct and coordinate research within NTU and collaborators in line with its research strategy and under the supervision of the PIs and Collaborators.
- Manage the research project in a team-based, cross-functional research environment, which includes mentoring students and working with research fellows, collaborators and technical and other support staff.
- Publish research outcomes in journals of international standing; Attend and present research findings and papers at academic meetings, and contribute to the external visibility of the Centre.
- Draft research reports for PIs and undertake specific roles and management functions as may be reasonably required by the PIs.
- Assist in drafting project proposals.
- Attend meetings and participate (where necessary) in other committees and working groups.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety in all aspects of the research work.
- The research staff is expected to work with the PI and other team members for doing R & D and take key role for the development of the systems for bioimaging and metrology
- Conduct and coordinate research within NTU and collaborating partners in line with its research strategy under the supervision of the PIs and collaborators
- Publish research outcomes in journals of international standing; Attend and present research findings and papers at academic meetings and contribute to the external visibility of the centre.
- Draft research reports for PIs and undertake specific roles and management functions as may be reasonably required by the PIs.
Requirements:
- PhD in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Precision Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics or a similar discipline with optics, nonlinear optics, spectroscopy and instrumentation background
- Previous experience in optics, nonlinear optics, random lasing, optical measurement technologies, spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and metrology are desirable
- Expertise in handling and maintenance of high-power CW and pulsed laser systems, spectrometers, high-resolution cameras, and delicate optical components are desirable
- Expertise in 3D printing would be an added advantage
- Possess good programming, optical instrumentation, automation and data processing skills (e.g. C++, LabVIEW, Zemax, OSLO, TracePro, MATLAB, Python, ImageJ)
- Proven publication track record would be an advantage
