The Position:

We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Release Engineer / Scrum Master to lead software release cycles and champion Agile practices across cross-functional teams. This role offers a unique opportunity to drive both technical execution and team collaboration, ensuring smooth, high-quality deployments and continuous delivery of value. 

As a Release Engineer, you will oversee the end-to-end release process—from compiling release-ready items and coordinating with DevOps to validating deployments and managing post-release activities. As a Scrum Master, you will facilitate Agile ceremonies, support backlog refinement, and foster a culture of transparency, continuous improvement, and team empowerment. 

You’ll also have the chance to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, automate reporting, and uncover insights that drive smarter decision-making. Occasional travel (up to once per quarter) may be required for team alignment and stakeholder engagement. 

This is a dynamic role ideal for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments, enjoys solving complex problems, and is passionate about delivering impactful software solutions through Agile excellence. 

The successful hire will be located and work out of the Contour Software Karachi office, working as part of the resource-center team, as an extension of the division-based R&D department. 

Primary Responsibilities: Release Management 

• Compile list of items marked as ‘Ready for Release’ from Jira. 
• Collect GitHub tags and create deployment tickets. 
• Major features, bug fixes, microservices, components, and release number. 
• Create tasks for Release Engineer/DevOps to: 
• Cut annotated release tag from master branches. 
• Freeze master branches during release prep. 
• Create release tag and generate release notes from Git repositories. 
• Tag format: yyyy.mm.dd (e.g., 2023.09.15) 
• Compile list of items marked as ‘Ready for Release’ from Jira. 
• Collect GitHub tags and create deployment tickets. 
• Major features, bug fixes, microservices, components, and release number. 
• Create tasks for Release Engineer/DevOps to: 
• Cut annotated release tag from master branches. 
• Freeze master branches during release prep. 
• Create release tag and generate release notes from Git repositories.

• Document Release Scope Including:

• Create a Release Branch using the same naming convention as the release tag. 
• Unfreeze master branches post-tagging. 
• Reconcile “Release Ready” tickets and release notes with Tech Leads. 
• List dependencies for each microservice and deployable component. 
• Backup steps, deployment steps, rollback procedures, and responsible stakeholders. 
• Tech Leads, Program Management, and CTO. 
• Assign QA resources to run regression test suites in UAT. 
• Assign Business resources to validate functionality in the Release Branch. 
• Deploy release tag to Sandbox environment: 
• Unfreeze master branches post-tagging. 
• Reconcile “Release Ready” tickets and release notes with Tech Leads. 
• List dependencies for each microservice and deployable component. 
• Backup steps, deployment steps, rollback procedures, and responsible stakeholders. 
• Tech Leads, Program Management, and CTO. 
• Assign QA resources to run regression test suites in UAT. 
• Assign Business resources to validate functionality in the Release Branch.

Coordination & Documentation

• Ensure Tech Leads Document:

• Obtain Release Approvals From:

Testing & Validation

• Run automated Key Business Function (KBF) test suite. 
• Close deployment if KBF passes. 
• Coordinate issue resolution or rollback if needed. 

Post-Release Activities

• Work directly with TPM to distribute release notes to all stakeholders. 
• Coordinate with Support team for enhanced monitoring for 48 hours post-deployment. 

Secondary Responsibilities: Agile Scrum Master 

Agile Facilitation:

• Lead Agile ceremonies including stand-ups, sprint planning, demos, retrospectives, and backlog refinement. 
• Collaborate with Technical Program Manager to refine and prioritize backlogs. 
• Foster team engagement, transparency, and continuous feedback. 

Process Optimization & Reporting:

• Identify and implement workflow improvements. 
• Track team performance using velocity, throughput, and dashboards. 
• Resolve impediments and document lessons learned. 

Cross-Team Collaboration:

• Coordinate across Engineering, QA, Product, and business units. 
• Standardize communication and promote Agile best practices. 

Strategic & Ai-Driven Contributions:

• Leverage AI tools to automate tasks, enhance decision-making, and identify performance trends. 
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives. 

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. 
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Release Engineer or in a similar role. 
• Experience in Agile development methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban. 
• Knowledge of continuous integration and continuous delivery practices. 
• Familiarity with cloud-based platforms and technologies, such as AWS or Azure. 
• Certification in release management or a similar field is a plus. 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Payment’S Domain Knowledge

• General conceptual understanding of programming and DB querying. 
• Certification in Agile methodologies, like Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM). 
• SAFe certification and Kanban certification are a plus. 
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. 
• Prior knowledge of Agile project management tools, such as Jira or Trello. 
• Ability to lead and facilitate Scrum ceremonies.
