The Retail 4 teams in Enforcement provide legal support to Supervision to intervene to prevent harm, triage serious misconduct for investigation and cancel firms failing to meet Threshold Conditions.

What will you be doing?

Associate Lawyers in the Interventions Team provide legal advice to Supervision and Executive Decision Makers on a range of interventions across the full remit of the FCA’s work.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Progressing a portfolio of demanding interventions often with tight deadlines
  • Advising on evidential sufficiency, identifying key legal and regulatory risks and making judgements and recommendations
  • Drafting intervention documentation (including statutory notices, legal advice notes and Tribunal documents)
  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues in other areas at all levels within the FCA and with external bodies
  • Contributing to internal training and knowledge sharing

Minimum

  • Qualified lawyer, with a valid practising certificate issued by the Solicitors Regulation Authority for England and Wales (if a solicitor), or the General Council of the Bar for England and Wales (if a barrister) (or a similar internationally recognised qualification)

Essential

  • Ability to analyse complex evidence in order to form a view as to what action is warranted, what further evidence may be required/available and how it might be obtained
  • Ability to learn about new or novel legal issues quickly and with enthusiasm, with the necessary oversight and support of colleagues
  • Ability to create solutions and deliver pragmatic outcome-focused advice
  • Ability to advise in a confident and reasoned manner and to challenge appropriately
  • Ability to work at pace and under pressure to deliver a variety of competing workstreams and to prioritise effectively to deliver to agreed deadlines
  • Good communication skills in order to present the outcome of analysis clearly and effectively, orally and in writing
  • Ability to exercise own judgement and defend those judgements where necessary and appropriate
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues in other business units and with external bodies
  • Ability to thrive whilst managing a varied, dynamic and urgent caseload, maintaining appropriate progress across the portfolio of cases
