Sr. Art Director

General Summary

The Senior Art Director is responsible for creation of graphics for print advertising, in-store signage, direct mail pieces, packaging prototypes, look books, web creative, and co-management of photo and video shoots. This position supports the Steve Madden Marketing business.

The responsibilities described below are considered essential functions of the role.  This position is based in our LIC office and requires working on-site five days per week.

Key Responsibilities

• Develops and maintains identity design for multiple brands
• Manages and directs photo and video shoots, including photographer/videographer sourcing, model and beauty sourcing, negotiating and booking of all talent, location scouting, creation of creative brief/shot list prior to shoot, on-set direction, and coordination of post-production work
• Gives direction to subordinates regarding concept, execution, and production details
• Works with the E-Commerce department in maintaining brand identity in online promotions and email correspondence for each brand
• Develops concepts for retail, wholesale, and trade creative for multiple brands and works with Graphics team on execution and production
• Works with International Marketing team to provide brand assets to distributors and develop creative unique to their retail environments
• Produces sketches, designs, and copy layouts for a variety of applications
• Determines size and arrangement of illustrative material and copy, select styles and size of type, and arranges layout based upon available space, knowledge of layout principles, and aesthetic design concepts
• Uses computer graphic systems to produce graphic sketches, designs, and copy layouts
• Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines with support and resources as needed
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Essential Duties Include

• Excellent time management and organizational skills are imperative
• Must be detail oriented and thorough
• An in-depth understanding of the Mac operating system and Adobe Creative Suite
• Work responsibilities occasionally concern confidential and/or sensitive information requiring the use of discretion
• Knowledge of printing and finishing methods. Occasionally the position will require attendance at press checks
• Teamwork and communication are crucial to the successful completion of own and others job duties
• Ability to understand and follow somewhat complex verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively
• Job duties are widely diverse, and frequently require conceptualizing, planning, and problem solving
• Efficiency and speed are essential skills, as the company is consistently working under very tight deadlines

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or equivalent field
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, and Acrobat Pro
• Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $180,000-$200,000. Ranges are based on various factors such as relevant skillset, training, years of experience related to the current job description, education, and our organizational structure.
