Job Description
In this compelling leadership role, you will lead Fannie Mae’s internal investigations function, overseeing all aspects of investigations into business integrity and personnel allegations of employee and contractor misconduct. You will set the strategic direction for investigations, ensure consistency, fairness, and rigor in investigative processes, and provide expert guidance to senior leadership. This role is responsible for managing a team of investigators, collaborating across business units, and driving continuous improvement in investigative practices to protect Fannie Mae’s reputation and uphold its values. In addition to your leadership responsibilities, you will personally conduct and oversee the most high-profile and sensitive investigations impacting the organization.

The Senior Director, Investigations role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:
- Develop and execute the vision, strategy, and policies for Fannie Mae’s internal investigations program, ensuring independence and alignment with corporate values, legal requirements, and regulatory expectations.
- Manage and develop a high-performing investigations team, fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Oversee the intake, triage, and resolution of complex investigations into alleged employee and contractor misconduct, unethical business practices, fraud, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other violations of laws, regulations, or Fannie Mae’s Code of Conduct and policies.
- Personally lead the most complex and sensitive investigations, ensuring thoroughness, objectivity, and confidentiality.
- Prepare and present Board-level materials, including investigation summaries, trends, and risk insights.
- Lead implementation and optimization of a new case management system, ensuring effective adoption and performance tracking.
- Establish and monitor Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and implement a quality assurance process to ensure consistency and timeliness.
- Collaborate with Ethics, Legal, HR, Internal Audit, Insider Risk, and other partners to ensure coordinated responses and risk mitigation.
- Serve as liaison to internal and external regulators (e.g., FHFA) and government enforcement agencies, ensuring transparency and compliance.
- Act as Fannie Mae’s expert witness in legal proceedings related to internal investigations.Program Governance & Risk Insights
- Lead root cause analysis for investigations to identify underlying issues, systemic risks, and opportunities for remediation.
- Collaborate closely with the Insider Risk program to share intelligence, coordinate responses, and strengthen controls against internal threats.
- Own and maintain investigation-related policies, standards, and procedures.
- Monitor trends, emerging risks, and control gaps, and drive continuous improvement across the investigations program.
THE EXPERIENCE YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
Minimum Required Experiences
- Juris Doctor (JD)
- 8+ years of experience in internal investigations, compliance, legal, or related fields, including 5+ years of people management experience
- Experience working with or within government enforcement agencies (e.g., DOJ, SEC, FHFA, OIG)
- Outstanding legal writing and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present to and influence colleagues and senior management across all levels of the organization.
- Proven ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information with discretion and exercise excellent professional judgment when managing multiple deadlines and competing priorities.
- Strong collaboration skills demonstrated by building trusting relationships and interacting productively with all levels of management.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to identify issues, think creatively, and apply strong organizational and analytical skills.

- Proven success in building and scaling investigations programs
- Experience leading system integrations and process improvement initiatives
- Proficiency with case management systems (e.g., Navex EthicsPoint, RiskWorks, SharePoint, DISCO)

Final salaries will generally vary within that range based on factors that include but are not limited to, skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and other relevant qualifications.
