Remote U.S. Tax Preparer (Form 1120/1120-S)

We are a U.S.-based CPA firm seeking a Tax Preparer experienced in corporate tax returns (Forms 1120 and 1120-S) to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to learn in a collaborative environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Request financial data and supporting documents from clients via email
  • Prepare U.S. corporate tax returns (Forms 1120 and 1120-S) using UltraTax or similar tax software
  • Review trial balances and make tax adjustments or reclassifications (e.g., meals, depreciation, owner distributions)
  • Prepare and reconcile supporting schedules (fixed assets, M-1 adjustments, officer compensation, shareholder loans, etc.)
  • Calculate and input Schedule K and K-1 information for S corporations
  • Assist with state income tax returns and extensions as needed
  • Maintain organized electronic workpapers and supporting documentation following firm standards
  • Assist CPAs and reviewers in resolving review notes and finalizing returns for filing
  • Support the e-filing process and verify acceptance of returns
  • Track return status in the firm’s workflow management system
  • Create and manage invoices in QuickBooks Online
  • Assist colleagues in distributing audit reports to clients
  • Follow up with clients regarding pending items and ensure timely filing deadlines are met
  • Perform light administrative and bookkeeping tasks as needed


Requirements



  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience preparing U.S. business tax returns (1120 or 1120-S required)
  • Experience using UltraTax, Drake, Lacerte, or similar U.S. tax software
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online and Adobe Acrobat
  • Understanding of U.S. tax concepts such as accrual vs. cash basis, depreciation, officer compensation, and shareholder distributions
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication
  • Reliable internet connection and comfort working remotely

Preferred / Nice-To-Have

  • Prior experience working for a U.S.-based CPA firm
  • Familiarity with Forms 1065 or 1040 (for cross-training potential)
  • Experience using secure file-sharing systems (SmartVault, ShareFile, etc.)
  • Availability for at least 3–4 hours overlap with U.S. Eastern Time business hours
