Job Description:
You’ll be the driving force behind consistent, engaging local news content that informs communities while building organic traffic through strategic SEO. This role combines traditional journalism skills with modern AI tools and digital marketing techniques, giving you the opportunity to shape how local news reaches and engages readers. You’ll work with a forward-thinking team that values efficiency, innovation, and quality storytelling in the digital age.Responsibilities:
- Research and write 1-2 local news articles daily with potential to scale to 2-3 articles as the publication grows
- Leverage AI tools like ChatGPT for content creation, then edit and refine output to ensure quality and authenticity
- Publish articles directly in WordPress, managing the complete content workflow from draft to publication
- Optimize all content for SEO using Yoast plugin, including keyword optimization, meta descriptions, and internal linking strategies
- Source and implement appropriate featured images with proper alt attributes for accessibility and SEO
- Conduct online research to identify trending Cincinnati local news topics and current events
- Generate relevant tags and select appropriate categories to maximize content discoverability
- Support additional content initiatives including blog posts and community engagement features
- Collaborate on innovative commenting system integration to drive reader engagement
Requirements:
- Strong English writing skills with demonstrated experience in American English and news writing
- Proficiency with WordPress content management system and comfortable with digital publishing workflows
- Understanding of SEO principles and hands-on experience with optimization tools (Yoast experience preferred)
- Experience effectively using AI writing tools like ChatGPT to enhance productivity while maintaining quality
- Ability to conduct thorough online research and identify compelling local news angles
- Self-directed work style with proven ability to meet consistent daily content quotas
- Bonus if you have journalism background or experience with local news coverage
