Position Overview:The UMBC Police Department has an internal promotional opportunity available for a UPO IV (Sergeant). This position is only open to current UMBC officers.
**Internal Promotion Only - Must be a current UMBC UPO III (MPO).**
Responsibilities:The UMBC Police Department has an internal promotional opportunity available for a UPO IV (Sergeant). The selected individual will function as a shift supervisor for police services.
- Supervise daily operations for a shift
- Set work priorities
- Report Reviews
- Evaluate Staff, Conduct Performance Reviews (PMP)
- Conduct internal investigations
- Review and investigate uses of force
- Make recommendations for appropriate counseling, and provide discipline
- Complete necessary paperwork in accordance with departmental regulations
- Participate in meetings and make policy/procedural recommendations
- Assist in shift training and evaluate training needs
- Perform duties of a UPO II or UPO III as necessary
- Other duties as assigned
- INTERNAL PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITY
- Must be a current UMBC UPO III (MPO)
- Requires a High School Diploma or GED (some college preferred) and at least two years of experience as a sworn police officer
- Certification as a sworn Police Officer recognized by the Maryland Police Training Commission
- Class C Driver's License valid in the State of Maryland
- Ability to work overtime and shift work is required
- Previous supervisory experience preferred
- A background check will be required.

Pay Range 16 (minimum: $76,663.87 maximum: $138,663.93) based on the University System of Maryland (USM) Pay Program. Targeted Starting Salary: $108,324.04.
The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
