Compliance Manager

Job Description

An excellent opportunity is available for a Compliance Manager to join the Risk and Compliance department at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About The Position

The Compliance Manager provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of the Institute’s compliance functions. The role ensures the Institute meets its legislative and regulatory obligations, maintains effective compliance programs, and upholds best practice in information, records, and privacy management. This role also provides expert advice and assurance to inform decision-making and safeguard the Institute’s reputation and sustainability.

Selection Criteriaknowledge And Skills:

  • Tertiary qualifications in law, business, governance, risk, or a related discipline 
  • Comprehensive understanding of Australian laws, regulations, and standards relevant to corporate compliance in medical research
  • Demonstrated experience leading a corporate compliance framework in a complex organisation—ideally health, research, higher-education, or not-for-profit.
  • Proven track record interpreting and applying a wide range of legislative and regulatory requirements, including privacy, records management, funding, and contractual obligations.
  • Hands-on experience in designing and managing corporate audit programs, internal reviews, incident investigations, and external audit coordination.
  • Demonstrated success in establishing and maintaining policy programs, including conflict-of-interest management.
  • Experience acting as or supporting a Privacy Officer, including oversight of information and records management systems.

  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills, able to translate complex legislative or policy requirements into clear guidance for executives, researchers, and staff.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills to build a culture of accountability and compliance.
  • High professional integrity, discretion, and sound judgement when managing sensitive privacy and conflict-of-interest matters.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to maintain registers, calendars, and multiple compliance programs simultaneously.

Terms of Appointment
This position is an ongoing role in a full capacity. Salary is Professional Services Employee Level 9 ($137,776 - $149,135). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
