Tarrant County AI-Assisted Reporter

McClatchy Media is seeking a curious, tech-savvy journalist to join our newsroom as an AI-assisted reporter, a new role focused on using AI-powered tools to generate, manage and enhance high-volume content across multiple local news sites in Tarrant County.

This reporter will be responsible for producing and overseeing automated content such as:

• Real estate and rental market reports
• Community event listings and roundups
• Public records summaries (e.g., restaurant inspections, business licenses, school board agendas)
• Breaking briefs and alerts from structured data and press releases

You will work with editors, developers and product managers to create automated workflows that maintain editorial quality and integrity, helping us efficiently deliver reliable, relevant news to readers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Use AI tools and platforms to generate structured, templated articles from databases, listings, or feeds.
• Review, fact-check and edit AI-generated content for accuracy, clarity and tone.
• Maintain a publishing calendar of recurring content such as weekly event guides, real estate trends, and neighborhood-level updates.
• Continuously optimize and improve automation templates based on performance and reader feedback.
• Collaborate with the newsroom to ensure content aligns with editorial standards and community relevance.
• Help train newsroom staff on how to responsibly use generative AI for editorial workflows.
• Fluency in English and Spanish preferred.

Qualifications:

• Strong editing skills and sharp news judgment, especially in working with structured or templated content.
• Interest in using AI tools such as natural language generation (NLG), prompt engineering and content automation.
• Understanding of how to work with structured datasets (e.g., property transfer feeds, public records, community calendars).
• Enthusiasm for local news and for scaling information access in underserved communities.
• Ability to work independently, manage recurring publishing cycles and meet tight deadlines.

Job Requirements:

• This is a day shift position that may include evening and weekend work as needed.
• This position is based in Fort Worth and involves a hybrid schedule: working from home and from our Fort Worth co-working space, with a strong expectation of gathering news in the communities we serve.
• Proficiency with AP style, grammar, and punctuation.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
