About This Opportunity
The RD Milns Antiquities Museum at The University of Queensland is recruiting a fixed term Assistant Curator to work with the Museum Manager/Curator and Director to care for, interpret, and facilitate access to the Museum's collection.
As Queensland’s foremost collection in this field, the RD Milns Antiquities Museum is committed to being a highly accessible teaching museum and enriching learning for university students, researchers, and the wider public.
This is a 0.5 FTE part-time position. The standard work days are Thursdays and Fridays, plus alternating Wednesdays subject to operational requirements and confirmed in consultation with the staff member and the Museum Manager.
Key responsibilities will include assisting the Manager/Curator and Director to:
- Deliver the Museum’s physical and digital exhibition program;
- Manage the Museum’s collection and use the KE Emu Database system;
- Facilitate collection access for UQ students and classes;
- Work with a team of casual staff and volunteers;
- Other duties as required.

About You
- Completion of a degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Ancient History, Archaeology, Museum Studies) without subsequent relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Hold, or be eligible to hold, a valid Queensland Government Blue Card.
- Content knowledge in the culture and material culture of ancient Greece, Rome, and/or Egypt.
- A sound understanding of the Axiell EMu database system or similar, or the ability to rapidly gain such knowledge.
- A sound understanding of the operations of a small museum including exhibition development, public programming, and collection access for a variety of audiences, or the ability to rapidly gain such knowledge
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal history check, blue card check, etc.
