Brief Position Summary
Performs highly complex (senior-level) grounds and building maintenance work. Work involves caring for and maintaining the appearance of grounds, repairing grounds equipment and performing routine building maintenance work. Maintains the inside and outside of buildings used by the public. Inspects work being performed to ensure safety precautions are being observed. Reports to the Grounds and Maintenance Supervisor. Works under limited supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Work Hours: Tuesday-Friday, 10 Hours a day, 40 hours a week
Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities
- Operates riding mowers, tractors, loaders, pick-up trucks, ground maintenance trailers, and related equipment to perform maintenance work.
- Operates hand-held lawn maintenance equipment such as weed-eaters, blowers, edgers, and chain saws.
- Researches and orders necessary parts and supplies.
- Mows and trims grass, shrubs and trees.
- Operates agricultural specialized mowing equipment.
- Occasionally operates truck mounted runway sweepers, skid steer dirt work machinery, powered man lift platform machinery, front-end articulated loader, back-hoe, and dump truck.
- Repairs stripes and performs preventive maintenance on parking lots, roads, and sidewalks.
- Removes dirt, rubbish, and refuse from grounds.
- Aids in the repair, removal, or install of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC equipment.
- May set up and/or move office furniture from one building to another building.
- Assists with landscaping designs and can make recommendations regarding changes in landscape and projects associated with grounds maintenance.
- Inspects ground maintenance work for completion of requested work.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency state employee policies & procedures handbook.
- May be required to perform duty in support of national emergencies, disasters and other missions, to include holidays and weekends.
- May occasionally work evenings, weekends or holidays.
- Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is required.
- 1 year of experience in groundskeeping work is required.
- Experience using Microsoft applications (such as Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel) is required.
- 1 year of experience in minor building maintenance is preferred.
- May occasionally work evenings, weekends or holidays.
- Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is required.
- 1 year of experience in groundskeeping work is required.
- Experience using Microsoft applications (such as Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel) is required.
- 1 year of experience in minor building maintenance is preferred.

- Valid driver’s license is required. *If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for driving state or personal vehicles to conduct agency business.
- HVAC, plumbing, or electrician Certification is preferred.
Other Requirements:
- Background Investigation. Selected candidate must pass federal security background investigation. The process includes a National Agency Check and Inquiry (NACI) and fingerprinting. New employees must complete and sign the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Form SF85. Completed forms are submitted to the OPM for the background investigations.
- Eligibility to Work in the U.S. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires all new employees to present proof of eligibility to work in the United States within three (3) days of being hired. The Texas Military Department participates in E-Verify and will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), with information from each new employee's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization. All offers of employment are contingent upon the candidate having and maintaining legal authorization to work in the United States. Failure to present such authorization within the time specified by the U.S. Department of Labor will result in the offer being rescinded.
- Sponsorship. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.

Physical/Working Conditions:
Work involves standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and crawling. Outside work requires bending, reaching, stretching, and crouching. Works with hands using power tools and lawn equipment for extended periods of time. Work may be done in awkward and cramped positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up equipment and materials that weigh up to 50 pounds. Often puts forth similar effort in pushing, pulling, turning, and positioning parts and assembling equipment and tools. Often lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of other workers and with lifting devices. Will be required to work and be exposed to seasonal inclement weather, and potential hazards (heat, rain, insects, snakes, etc.). Requires the ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
