Backend Software Engineer III
Are you a seasoned backend engineer who thrives on building large, complex, and highly visible systems from the ground up? We're looking for a Backend Software Engineer III to join a dynamic team working on a Greenfield project that will revolutionize quoting and enrollment for Spring Venture Group. This is a rare opportunity to have a significant impact on our core business and shape the future of our technology stack.
What You'Ll Do
As a key member of our engineering team, you'll be instrumental in designing, developing, and testing critical systems that directly support our organizational goals. This role isn't just about writing code; it's about being a subject matter expert who can lead by example and influence the quality and direction of our entire platform. You'll:
- Design, Develop, and Test: Take ownership of the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), building robust and scalable backend systems to meet evolving business needs.
- Innovate and Influence: Work closely with the Lead Software Engineer to establish technical standards and best practices, ensuring we're always pushing for excellence.
- Ensure Quality: Uphold the integrity of our code through rigorous peer reviews, ensuring that every solution delivered to production is of the highest quality.
- Collaborate and Communicate: Accurately convey project information, keep our Agile project tracking tools up-to-date, and work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Solve Complex Problems: Triage and resolve Tier 3 production issues, demonstrating an ability to quickly diagnose problems and find elegant solutions.
- Lead Autonomously: This is a role for someone who needs minimal direction. We're looking for an autonomous engineer who feels confident in their ability to jump in, take initiative, and provide vocal leadership on technical matters.

Required Skills & Qualifications 💻
This is a senior role for an engineer who is ready to make an immediate impact.
- Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Software Engineer in an enterprise setting.
- Technical Stack: Strong proficiency in backend systems with Kotlin technology. Experience with Java is a plus.
- Cloud Infrastructure: Extensive experience with Cloud Infrastructure, with a strong preference for AWS.
- Distributed Systems: Deep knowledge of distributed technology, RDBMS, SQL, Python, and data modeling.
- API Design: Proven expertise in API design and building RESTful APIs.
- AI-Assisted Coding Tools: Experience with AI-assisted coding tools like GitHub Copilot or others.
- Leadership: A desire to be a Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing vocal leadership and confidently engaging with stakeholders.
- Problem Solving: A natural ability to triage system issues and learn quickly, along with meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality code.
- Bonus Points: Experience with Snowflake is a definite plus!
