The Coordinator functions in all aspects of the Sterile Processing Department and in addition provides oversight for the Sterile Processing Department in the absence of the OR Sterile Manager. Serves as liaison between OR Sterile and the user departments inside and outside of the healthcare facility. Manages daily functions in OR Sterile ensuring that established infection control practices are followed. The OR Sterile Coordinator is responsible for all activities assigned during their shift, including: staff assignments, temperature and humidity monitoring, placing work orders, contacting vendors and reporting equipment for repair, assist the instrument and supply coordinator with assignments, quality and accuracy of work produced, reports at the end of the shift and the status of the department.  Provide orientation to new hires and ongoing training as needed in each area of the Sterile Processing department and reporting progress to the OR Sterile Manager daily/weekly.

Ability to assess, identifies, and responds to urgent/emergent requests for instruments, supplies, and equipment in efficient, effective, and appropriate manner.  Knowledgeable of and complies with all applicable infection control, health and safety policies and procedures as implemented by the department and/or work unit and is compliant to all Cabell Huntington Hospital standards.

Ability to operate fairly complex machinery including washer/decontaminators, ultrasonic washers, surgical power equipment, etc. Ability to acquire a thorough knowledge of the principles of aseptic technique and to apply these principles when carrying out the various assignments, in Sterile Processing Services.

Will be expected to assist in instrument processing when emergent situations occur and other duties when requested.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associates degree or technical school degree required.
  • CBSPD or IAHSCMM Certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • CIS Certified Instrument Specialist required within 6 months of hire.
  • CHL Certified Health Care Leadership Certification preferred.
  • 2 to 5 years of position related experience working within a Central Sterilization Department. Experience in a progressive healthcare environment supporting their community as a Level I or II Trauma Center. Previous management experience is preferred. Preference will be given to those experienced in instrument ordering, instrument tracking systems, supply oversight to include inventory management. Previous leadership experience to include: assisting in providing feedback for employee evaluations, personnel guidance through training and orientation to essential instruments and supplies that ensures Central Sterilization employees have the knowledge and skill necessary to provide excellent service.
