Summary
Foreman I – Auto Shop, under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, assigns, reviews, and supervises work performed by technicians in the daily maintenance and repair of city vehicles and equipment. This leadership role provides a high level of customer service to internal departments and coordinates warranty/sublet repairs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Supervises technicians engaged in the repair and maintenance of light duty and automotive equipment
• Serves as customer service representative for the shop
• Coordinates and reviews equipment maintenance, including recommendations for replacement as needed
• Ensures accuracy and completion of equipment inspections, reviews recommended parts and orders parts for workorders and supplies as required
• Coordinates outside warranty and repair work
• Reviews invoices, work orders, consumption reports, and demand forecasts to estimate peak delivery periods and issues work assignments to ensure targeted productivity goals & standards are met or exceeded
• Performs repairs and participates in completion of work orders
• Performs inspections of completed repairs to ensure quality of repair and suitability for vehicle return to service
• Ensures technician certification compliance
• Uses fleet management system to record job order information
• Gathers estimated job repair times for use in the billing process
• Updates technicians of shop productivity and shop performance goals
• Trains technicians in the repair and reconditioning of automobiles, mowers, and other specialized equipment
• Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes
• Monitors spending to ensure that expenses are consistent with approved budgets
• Inspects operational areas for adherence to safety standards
• Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
• Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Three (3) years of experience in maintenance and repair of automotive and small equipment
• One (1) year of experience in a supervisory/foreman role
Certifications, Licenses and Registrations
• EPA Section 609 Certification
• ASE A4, A5, A6 & A7 Certifications
