POSITION TITLE:  Financial Analyst
  • DEPARTMENT/LOCATION:  Business & Finance/Education Center
  • STATUS:    Classified - Exempt, Full Time
  • HOURS OF WORK: 8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 242 days per year
  • Start Base Salary:  $75,000/YR

POSITION SUMMARY: The Financial Analyst provides professional-level financial analysis, reporting, and forecasting to support the district’s fiscal planning, budget development, and decision-making processes. This position ensures accurate interpretation and presentation of financial data, assists in the preparation of the annual budget, and monitors financial performance across district departments, schools, and programs. The role requires strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining compliance with state, federal, and local financial regulations.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed financial analysis to support budget development, monitoring, and forecasting for district funds and programs.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership, the Board of Education, and external agencies.
  • Monitor expenditure trends and budget variances; identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist in the development of the district’s annual operating budget and multi-year financial projections.
  • Provide financial modeling and scenario analysis to inform strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Review and analyze expenditures to ensure compliance with funding requirements.
  • Collaborate with department and school staff to ensure accurate financial data entry, reporting, and budget management.
  • Support the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and external audit documentation.
  • Maintain knowledge of state funding formulas, accounting codes, and financial reporting requirements for K–12 public education.
  • Develop and maintain financial dashboards, cost analysis tools, and internal management reports.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance financial efficiency and internal controls.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education And Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in financial analysis, accounting, or budgeting; experience in a K–12 public education or government environment preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet analysis, data visualization, and financial software applications (e.g., ERP systems, Excel, Power BI).
  • Understanding of governmental accounting principles (GAAP) and public sector budgeting practices.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the performance of light work— Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.  The position includes occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.
