Insurance Specialist II (Compliance Specialist) 
Performs routine (journey level) insurance investigation work and data entry in the Audits and Investigations section of Compliance and Investigations. Work involves reviewing complaint referrals and conducting formal audits of system participants for compliance with the Texas Labor Code and Texas Administrative Code. May be cross-trained for multiple functions within the section. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

  • This position:
  •     Investigates complaint referrals for compliance, documents findings, and recommends enforcement actions.
  •     Conducts compliance audits of Texas workers’ compensation system participants.
  •     Provides customer service and answers technical questions for system participants related to complaints or compliance audits.
  •     Assists with special projects.
  •     Performs other duties as assigned
 

Qualifications

 
  • This position requires:  
  •     Sixty (60) college hours.
  •     One year of work experience.
  •     Regular work attendance.
  • Note | substitution language:
  •     Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.
  • Additional job details: 
  •     The interview will include a grammar test.
  • Preferences for this position include: 
  •     Four-year college degree.
  •     Experience with Excel spreadsheets.
  •     Experience with medical billing, medical benefits, or medical treatment.
  •     Indemnity benefit experience.
  • This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:
  •     State laws, rules, procedures, and regulations relevant to job requirements.
  •     Researching databases.
  •     Business terminology, spelling, punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, and typing formats.

This position requires demonstrated skill in:
•    Problem solving and critical thinking.
•    Using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
•    Using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other systems required to perform the job.

  • This position requires the demonstrated ability to:
  •     Communicate and work effectively with a wide range of people with varied skills, knowledge, and backgrounds.
  •     Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  •     Analyze and solve work-related problems and work independently on a variety of administrative work and technical assignments.
  •     Manage and coordinate multiple tasks and priorities to meet necessary deadlines.
  •     Work both independently and as a team player.
  •     Learn, research, and apply the state laws, rules, procedures, and regulations (including Texas Labor Code and Texas Administrative Code) relevant to workers’ compensation.
  •     Learn Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS) for performing compliance audits.
  •     Learn documentary evidence review principles for investigating complaints involving workers’ compensation medical and claims records and data.
  •     Communicate data, policies, and recommendations clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  •     Establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external customers.
