Towson University is seeking an Assistant Director for the Department of Inclusive Excellence Education & Support (IEES). This position will support the development of strategic, sustainable approaches and programs providing education and training on inclusive excellence -- encompassing diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, accessibility, belonging, and more -- serving all units and constituent groups across campus including students, staff, faculty, administrators, alumni, and community partners. This position coordinates campus-wide dialogue and civil discourse efforts and assists with other inclusive excellence initiatives, special programs/projects and other duties as assigned.
Inclusion & Institutional Equity is comprised of the Vice President's office and three departments -- Accessibility & Disability Services (ADS), the Center for Student Diversity (CSD), and Inclusive Excellence Education & Support (IEES) -- and works collaboratively with all departments, divisions and colleges across campus.
Responsibilities And Duties
- Coordinates signature IEES resources, including Dialogue@TU and the Dialogue Fellowship for Community, Culture and Belonging; oversees dialogue participant and dialogue facilitator training programs for all stakeholder populations including students, student organizations, staff, faculty, supervisors, and community partners; and cultivates campus-wide sustained and intergroup dialogue opportunities within and among student, employee, interfaith, and other affinity populations.
- Develops and delivers campus-wide trainings, workshops, programs, and resources that build the cultural capacity of all campus constituent groups (students, staff, faculty); executes a cohesive strategy for robust education, training and professional development opportunities that align with institutional belonging priorities; and coordinates IEES digital content including podcasting, video and web-based.
- Program evaluation and assessment: Assists with the development and implementation of assessment tools that evaluate participant learning outcomes across all OIIE departments (Accessibility & Disability Services; Center for Student Diversity, Inclusive Excellence Education & Support; the Vice President’s Office); leverages data to improve and expand IEES and OIIE education, training, and professional development strategic priorities.
- Works collaboratively with departments, colleges, and divisions to consult on, deliver, and evaluate inclusive excellence education, training, and professional development for alignment with institutional priorities.
- Works collaboratively across the Inclusion and Institutional Equity office, which is comprised of the Vice President's office and three departments, and supports new and signature programs, events, and activities as assigned, including the annual OIIE summit and awards and recognitions program.
- Represents IEES on departmental, divisional, and university-wide committees.
The work hours for this position may include occasional weekends and evenings.
Telework may be available for this position up to two days per week following the completion of 90 days of service in good standing.
Qualifications And Skills
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., multicultural education; social sciences; gender, sexuality, and queer studies; disability studies; public policy or administration; communication; social justice or human rights; peace, justice & conflict studies, etc.).
- Three years of related experience
- Experience developing, facilitating, and evaluating trainings, workshops, and resources
- Knowledge of higher education, specifically focused on inclusive excellence learning and development
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, research, and best practices in inclusive excellence learning and development
- Ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholder groups
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience developing, facilitating, and evaluating education, professional development, and trainings that address access, accessibility, belonging, diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice and their impacts on historically minoritized and excluded communities
- Prior experience with sustained or intergroup dialogue facilitation or mediation within and/or across affinity populations, such as interfaith, political affiliation, or other social identities
- Experience working with or on behalf of one or more affinity populations including, but not limited to people with disabilities, Latiné, LGBTQ+, African, African American, Asian, Pacific Islander, Middle Eastern, Desi American, Native/Indigenous, mixed/multiracial, first generation, limited income, women, veterans, immigrants, religious/secular/spiritual, and/or justice impacted
- Prior supervisory experience in a higher education setting
Targeted hiring range is $78,000 - $85,000 and full University benefits that include 22 days of annual leave, up to 15 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission.
