Position Overview
Off the Grid Services, LLC is seeking an experienced Controller to join our dynamic team in San Francisco. The Controller plays a critical leadership role, overseeing all accounting functions, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting and compliance. This individual will be responsible for guiding financial performance, driving process improvements and communicating effectively across all levels of the organization. The position requires strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and exceptional communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial oversight: Manage all day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and revenue recognition.
- Reporting and analysis: Prepare, analyze, and publish timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Ensure all reports are accurate and comply with U.S. GAAP. Provide senior management with detailed financial analysis to inform strategic decision-making.
- Internal controls and compliance: Develop, document, and enforce business processes and accounting policies. Maintain strong internal controls to protect company assets and ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Drive process improvements: Identify and implement automation and process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in the accounting and finance functions.
- Audit management: Coordinate with external auditors and manage the annual audit process to ensure its timely completion.
- Tax management: Collaborate with external tax advisors to ensure tax compliance and filings, including income tax, sales tax and 1099 forms, adhere to all local, state and federal regulations.
- Budgeting and forecasting: Assist in the annual budgeting and financial forecasting processes. Monitor performance against the budget and provide variance reports to key stakeholders.
- Team leadership: Oversee activities of AR/AP contractor to ensure timely account collections, invoice processing and inquiry resolution. Foster culture of continuous learning and professional development.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA or MBA preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or management role. Prior experience in the catering and restaurant industry is a plus.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency with NetSuite, Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.
- Experience with Rippling, Salesforce and Airbase or similar software.
- Demonstrated record of process improvements utilizing technology and system software tools.
- Familiarity with San Francisco regulatory and tax requirements.
- Experience working in small business environments.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a hybrid setting.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Adaptable and proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
Work Environment: This is a hybrid role based in San Francisco, CA, combining remote work with in-office collaboration to support business needs and foster team engagement.
