The Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL), a leading research and development institution managed by Battelle Savannah River Alliance (BSRA), is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Operations and Facilities System Engineer Manager. This role is crucial for leading an engineering team dedicated to ensuring the operational excellence, safety, and efficiency of our nuclear and non-nuclear facilities. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of nuclear engineering, regulatory compliance, and exceptional team and project management skills.

  • Supervise, direct, and mentor a staff of approximately 20 system engineers.
  • Develop and manage budgets, schedules, and resources; establish work priorities according to program and facility needs and safety significance.
  • Maintain and enforce compliance with SRNL policies and procedures, DOE requirements, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with R&D customers, Operations, Maintenance, and other departments to deliver project goals and engineering solutions.
  • Identify and promote professional development opportunities for engineering staff to build a highly skilled and motivated team.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on system performance, project progress, and strategic initiatives to senior management.
  • Stay abreast of technological advancements and regulatory changes in the nuclear energy sector, integrating new knowledge into facility operations.
  • Lead by example in demonstrating SRNL’s unwavering commitment to safety, ensuring all work is performed within the framework of SRNL’s Integrated Safety Management System.
  • Develop and implement robust processes for system engineering activities to ensure operational excellence and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify and make recommendations for all necessary modifications to the physical plant and approve the resulting proposed modifications as well as manage facility modification/construction projects and qualification of safety-critical equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years experience in a system engineering role, with at least 5 years in a managerial or supervisory position within a nuclear facility.
  • Technical Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of nuclear facility operations, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
  • Project Management: Proven track record in project management and process improvement, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a team to achieve excellence.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely.
  • For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree preferred.
