Job Summary:

The Facilities Technician supports the maintenance, repair, and operational readiness of facility systems and equipment in a peptide manufacturing environment, ensuring compliance with GMP and EHS standards. This role performs both planned and unplanned maintenance, assists various departments with equipment servicing and lab support, and oversees facility cleaning, calibration, inspections, and contractor coordination. The technician also plays a key role in hazardous waste handling, emergency response, and maintaining high safety and operational standards across the site. This role contributes directly to PolyPeptide’s commitment to delivering exceptional quality and on-time delivery to our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    1. Perform both planned and unplanned maintenance and repair of the facility, facility systems and facility equipment.
    2. Document performed maintenance and repairs using quality system procedures.
    3. Act as both an inside and outside support to the GMP and Process Development departments, performing such duties as:
      1. servicing lyophilizers, and their vacuum pumps
      2. transportation and changing of the solvent delivery containers
      3. clearing out the pass through, and disposing of trash generated within the GMP lab
      4. oversee the execution of the PD/QC labware cleaning program.
    4. Assist in the design, assembly, and installation of specialized systems, equipment and infrastructure needs.
    5. Schedule with, meet with, and assist outside contractors. Ensure that contractors perform the requested work properly. Ensure that outside contractors work in a safe manner and adhere to the requirements of the PPL-SD Contractor Safety Program.
    6. Order Facilities and other Departments’ supplies.
    7. Conduct and document weekly and monthly full facility inspections.
    8. Supervise the day-to-day PPL-SD facility Cleaning and Sanitation Program. Assist with the cleaning and sanitation of the facility as needed.
    9. Assist with the Warehouse Dept. supply storage, equipment deliveries and other duties
    10. Handle all non-radioactive wastes generated by the production departments (only for Facility personnel with 40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification).
    11. Participate in PPL-SD Emergency Response team (Facility personnel fully certified as HAZWOPER).
    12. Operate the PPL-SD Hazardous Waste Transfer System.
    13. Understand and follow the relevant procedure requirements of working in a GMP manufacturing operation.
    14. Assist the EHS Manager with ensuring day-to-day compliance with PPL-SD Environmental, Health & Safety Program.
    15. Assist with the facility department’s EHS responsibilities, such as daily, weekly, monthly inspections, fire suppression system Maintenance and service.
    16. Assist the Validation Supervisor with validation responsibilities including calibration, preventive maintenance, CMMS system and equipment validation activities.
    17. Perform other duties as assigned.
  2. ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS:
    1. PPL-SD Facility Technicians are required to work as scheduled during the workweek (including nights and weekends). Overtime work will apply after an 8-hour workday or after 40 hours per week.
    2. All Facility personnel shall be trained in 40-hour OHSA certified “HAZWOPER” and shall be members of the PPL-SD Emergency Response team (see attached HAZWOPER Job Description).
    3. PPL-SD Facility Technicians shall, in addition to the standard “HAZWOPER” waste handling training, be thoroughly trained in the operation and emergency response procedures for the PPL-SD Hazardous Waste Transfer System.
    4. PPL-SD Facility Technicians shall work safely at all times.
    5. PPL-SD Facility Technicians shall represent PPL-SD with a high level of integrity and professionalism.
    6. PPL-SD Facility Technicians shall adhere to PPL-SD policies

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Required Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience
  • Experience:
  • Preferred 6 months experience in laboratory environment.

Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Skills:
  • Able to obtain a Forklift operator license, and successfully complete a 40-hour “HAZWOPER” certification course, physical and wear APR.
  • Able to successfully complete an OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • Able to pass HAZWOPER physical.
  • Air Purifying Respirator Trainer certification.
  • Computer competency (MS Windows, Office)
  • Ability to operate equipment management software (e.g. CMMS)
  • Soft Skills:
  • Knowledge of HAZMAT regulations and handling procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of GMP regulations.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, engineering reports, mechanical and electrical drawings.
  • Good written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and project a professional image when giving and taking information in writing or in person.
  • Ability to take initiative and prioritize tasks; good time-management, problem-prevention, and problem-solving skills.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

This role may be based in an office, laboratory, or GMP manufacturing environment, depending on the position. Office-based employees primarily work at a computer in a standard office setting, while lab and manufacturing roles may require work in controlled environments with appropriate gowning and PPE.

Physical Demands May Include:

  • Prolonged sitting or standing, depending on the role.
  • Frequent movement between work areas and occasional lifting of up to 80 pounds.
  • Performing repetitive tasks, including pipetting, weighing, and data entry.
  • Use of hands for data entry, equipment operation, or laboratory tasks.
  • Exposure to chemicals, equipment noise, or temperature-controlled environments in lab or production settings.
  • Occasional evening, weekend, or overtime hours to meet production or testing deadlines.

Salary: $21$24/hour
