Postdoc in Modelling Industrial Clusters in Highly Renewable Energy Systems - DTU Wind

DTU - Technical University of Denmark.com

Office

Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark

Full Time

Do you hold a PhD in macro-energy system modelling? Do you want to investigate how small clusters with advanced technologies (renewables, carbon capture, power-to-X) can spearhead the energy transition by providing flexibility to the system?

Then the best opportunity is in front of you. Apply and join our research group at DTU Wind and Energy Systems as well as the Novo Nordisk CO2 Research Center!

Carbon-neutral clusters represent locations where renewable generation, hydrogen production, CO2 sourcing, and carbonaceous fuels production are collocated. These clusters are surrounded by a larger energy system with which they interact. This PhD project will investigate how their design and external constraints affect their ability to balance energy and carbon procurement and consumption as well as the flexibility that they can provide to the system.

Responsibilities and qualifications
Your overall focus will be to strengthen the department’s competences within computational modeling of highly renewable energy systems and carbon management in such systems. You will work with nearby colleagues, and with both academic and industrial partners in Denmark as well as abroad. Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Structure and curate large-scale datasets using open repositories,
  • Design and implement the analysis including code development,
  • Lead the writing of scientific articles and present results at conferences,
  • Teach and supervise BSc and MSc student projects, and be co-supervisor for PhD students

You must have a PhD in macro-energy system modelling or a similar field. Strong coding skills in Python are essential, along with good writing and communication skills in English. The ideal candidate should demonstrate initiative and be comfortable working collaboratively in a team setting. A solid understanding of energy system technologies and economics is also required. Additionally, experience with other programming languages, open-source software development, project management using GitHub, and working with high-performance computing clusters will be viewed positively.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
