Position Summary: Barber-Nichols relies on suppliers for prototype and production success on complex products with challenging requirements. The Senior Supplier Quality Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring that suppliers provide high-quality materials and components that meet or exceed requirements. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues, manages supplier quality performance, and leads quality improvement initiatives.
As the primary owner of supplier quality, the Senior Supplier Quality Engineer has a crucial opportunity to shape the success of Barber-Nichols and our customers in critical space, advanced energy, and defense applications.
RequirementsKey Responsibilities:
- Issue Resolution:
- Act as the primary contact for quality issues related to suppliers, facilitating prompt resolution of non-conformances.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for supplier-related quality problems.
- Lead or support containment activities for supplier escapes.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure that quality issues are addressed in a timely and effective manner.
- Supplier Management:
- Maintain relationships with key suppliers to ensure standards are met.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) for quality issues.
- Quality and First-Pass Yield (FPY) Improvement:
- Analyze supplier quality data and metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on supplier performance and quality.
- Lead and Manage Source Inspection process & events, in conjunction with Quality Control.
- Complete other duties as required by Supply Chain leadership.
Qualifications:
- Education and Training
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., Six Sigma, ASQ CQE) preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in supply chain or quality engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a high compliance environment, such as space, aerospace, defense, or medical.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of quality standard and management system fundamentals (e.g., D17.1, IPC, ISO 9001, AS9100).
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and quality tools (e.g., SPC, FMEA, Root Cause Analysis).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to prioritize high-value issues and effectively delegate simpler challenges.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with suppliers and internal teams.
- Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- AS9100 auditor certified or ability to obtain certification preferred.
- Work Environment:
- Primarily on-site in Arvada, Colorado.
- Occasional travel (up to 20%) to supplier sites locally or domestically.
ITAR Requirements: To conform to U.S. Government commercial space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3), applicants for employment at Barber-Nichols must be a U.S. citizen or national, lawfully admitted for permanent residence into the U.S. (i.e., current green card holder), or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. § 1157-1158. Compensation And Benefits:
The salary range for this role is $105,000. - $120,000. This range represent the anticipated minimum and maximum base + bonus for this position based upon a good faith and reasonable estimate. The final compensation for this position will be set based on the applicant’s qualifications (education, training and/or experience related to this role), and therefore, may fall outside the range shown, depending on the circumstances.
