Position Summary
The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) provides compassionate care and support to residents in our retirement and nursing community. Working under the direction of nursing and medical staff, the CMA ensures safe and accurate medication administration while also assisting with direct resident care. This role plays an important part in enhancing the health, dignity, and quality of life of our residents.

  • Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • The following duties are typical for this position. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
  • Accurately obtains, records, and monitors residents’ vital signs in the electronic medical record.
  • Safely administers and documents medications—including oral, topical, eye, and ear drops—in strict accordance with physician orders.
  • Observes residents closely, reporting any unexpected or adverse reactions to medications promptly to nursing staff.
  • Takes vital signs when required prior to administering certain medications.
  • Provides direct resident care as outlined in the CNA Job Description; functions as a CNA when not assigned to medication administration.
  • Participates in ongoing in-service training and professional development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Ensures compliance with all community policies, procedures, and personnel standards, as well as Federal and State regulations, including HIPAA privacy and confidentiality requirements.
  • Understands and follows the community’s Fire Safety, Disaster Preparedness, and evacuation procedures during drills and actual emergencies.
  • Builds and maintains positive, professional, and respectful relationships with residents, families, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Delivers care in alignment with the mission, values, and ethical directives of the Catholic faith and Catholic social teaching.
  • Performs additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

Educational Requirements And Experience:

· Current Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certificate in good standing with the appropriate Department of Health, along with a valid CNA certificate. A minimum of one year of experience in a long-term care setting is preferred.

o Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, in the primary language of the residents.

o Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

o Prepares clear and accurate reports, documentation, and correspondence.

· Mathematical Skills

o Performs basic math functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, using whole numbers, fractions, and     decimals.

· Cognitive Skills

o Applies sound judgment and common sense to follow written, oral, or diagrammed instructions.

o Solves problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.

· Computer Skills

o Responds effectively to computerized logs and notifications related to resident calls and care needs.

· Core Competencies

o Demonstrates a genuine interest in serving a senior population with dignity and respect.

o Responds promptly and compassionately to resident needs.

o Maintains reliable attendance and punctuality.

o Promotes a safe environment for residents and co-workers, including the safe transport of residents and equipment.

Environmental Adaptability

  • Works primarily indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
  • May be exposed to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, and hazardous materials.
  • Possible exposure to unpleasant odors and cleaning chemicals as outlined in the MSDS Manual.
  • Frequent interaction with residents who may be ill, confused, irritable, or experiencing cognitive or behavioral challenges.

Physical Requirements

 Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The role also requires the ability to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to talk and hear effectively, and occasionally may be required to taste or smell.
