Essential Job Functions
- Conducts quarterly site safety inspections for each facility (excluding school programs) and documents findings in specific reports.
- Prepares repair orders for deficiencies found and coordinates corrective action needed with appropriate staff / departments and follows through to completion.
- Ensures all Inpatient Units and Outpatient Offices have current postings of AHCA & DCF Licenses, Baker Act Designations, Business Tax Receipts, Patients’ Rights Posters (in 3-languages), Accreditation Certificates, Dept of Health Certificates including Sanitation Certificates and Bio-Hazard Permits, ensures Bio-Hazard Warning Labels are affixed to the outside of any Bio-Hazard Storage room, First /Aid and other information sheets.
- Replaces missing or expired First Aid and Save-a-Life kits, fire extinguishers, and fire extinguisher brackets.
- Conducts and documents safety drills in the following areas at least annually: tornadoes, hurricanes, nuclear disasters and bomb threats) In addition, Fire Safety Drills.
- The Safety Coordinator is to also participate in Code Blue and Code Yellow drills and is to ensure that the drills are documented with outcomes provided to the QA Directors as well as to the Safety Committee.
- Actively participates in any announced or unannounced site visits conducted by the Department of Health with regards to the annual Group Care Inspections, Sanitation Inspections, and Bio-Hazard Waste inspections, then prepares work orders for noted deficiencies, and tracks to completion.
- It is the responsibility of the Safety Coordinator to secure a signature on a Training Log from employees to whom have received this training and to submit these Logs to the HR Department for each individual employee file.
- Serves as a member of the Agency’s Health and Safety Committee and submits both verbal and written reports on Agency-wide safety.
- Maintains Safety Inspection Reports and Drills in an orderly manner and provides them to the QA Directors and to the Safety sub-Committee monthly which is to include copies of all drills completed the prior month, a report summarizing any open and closed Safety Work Orders/Deficiencies, a summary of inspections that had occurred, whether internal or external, and any completed equipment checklists.
- Participates in new employee training for Agency Safety Standards (CPI/CARE, CPR, and Fire Safety).
- Participates in Hurricane planning events and preparation and ensures that disaster supplies are available for all departments.
- Participates in Seclusion and Restraint meetings as an active member and assists with training and monitoring trends.
- Demonstrates good leadership by regularly keeping supervisor informed of safety issues and administrative matters on a regular basis.
- Responsible for the appearance, operation and maintenance and service of agency vehicles.
- Collects and maintains activity, mileage, repairs and service records of agency vehicles in accordance with the Agency’s Transportation Policies and Procedures and logs this data into appropriate database.
- Assists Maintenance department in facilitating vehicle repairs as necessary.
- Provides assistance to off-site programs in maintaining program vehicles.
- Verbalizes, understands and adheres to Agency Transportation Policies and Procedures and safety practices.
- Assists Maintenance Mgr. in conducting driving tests for new employees as necessary.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice with at least 2 years related experience in interpreting and applying sound safety practices, and local Fire and Health Dept regulations in a Behavioral Healthcare environment. The ability to pay close attention to detail is mandatory with two-year Supervisory Experience.
Or
Associate's degree in criminal justice with at least 4 years of related experience.
