The ideal process engineer will spend most of their time working directly with the production teams, providing support through engineering projects, leading continuous improvement efforts, and cost reduction activities. When serving in this position, an individual could have diverse tasks and responsibilities given the daily operational needs. The ideal candidate must have some applicable skills and be willing to learn skills necessary to support all the areas as explained below.
Essential Job Functions:
- Providing support in production as a Process Engineer which can include duties such as:
- Define, modify, maintain, and improve manufacturing processes for safety and quality improvement, cost reduction, or design changes through controlled process documentation, including standardized work instructions, illustration and instructions sheets, design checklist/guidelines, and best practices for the production department.
- Develop engineering solutions for repetitive equipment/process failures.
- Support production teams, salary and hourly staff, through daily interaction and problem-solving skills.
- Work closely with all levels of the organization, including cross-functional teams, to improve upon manufacturing machinery and address quality concerns from both internal and external parties.
- Support the identification of available capacity, the reception and start-up of tools and equipment, and release tooling and equipment specifications.
- Review BOM’s and coordinate with the project management and materials team to define part and process routings for sample builds.
- Oversee machine runoff on new equipment to ensure proper functioning of all equipment.
- Lead Kaizen activities, and document results.
- Track and report internal metrics using manufacturing software data.
- Assist in identification of departmental training requirements and may provide the training for improvement of skill levels.
- Follow all necessary regulations and appropriate Company procedures including quality policies, safety policies, OSHA, EPA, ASME, NEC, etc. standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology, or equivalent experience
- Prefer 2 years of experience in a manufacturing/production environment with knowledge of manufacturing methods.
General Skills/Experience:
- Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to follow proper safety procedures.
- Proactive and takes ownership to resolve problems and make suggestions as to changes or improvements to the manufacturing processes.
- Ability to work with employees from many different cultures and backgrounds, as well as independently.
- Preference will be given to qualified local candidates.
Software/Computer Skills & Experience:
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite, and CAD software.
