Barry’s is the Best Workout in the WorldTM®. Founded in West Hollywood in 1998, it’s the original strength and cardio interval fitness experience that provides an immersive, high-intensity, one-hour workout that’s as effective as it is fun. Our fitness classes alternate between working out with weights and running on a treadmill. Each day focuses on a different muscle group in order to achieve real results and to prevent injuries. Our program is designed to tone muscle and maximize fat loss, while spiking the metabolism for up to 48 hours following the class.
About The Role
The Director, Instructor Talent Management, is a visionary leader responsible for shaping how Barry’s world-class brand comes to life through its instructor population. This role provides strategic oversight of instructor recruitment, training, development, and performance management—ensuring Barry’s continues to be recognized as The Best Workout in the World while delivering a safe, engaging, and high-energy experience across all studios.
With a focus on coaching, culture, and capability building, the Director will drive instructor excellence, create meaningful career pathways, and foster a diverse and inclusive environment that empowers instructors to thrive. This leader will partner closely with cross-functional teams including Operations, Strategy, Talent, and People & Culture to elevate the instructor experience, inform business decisions with data, and position Barry’s for continued growth and innovation.
What You'Ll Do
Strategic Oversight
- Set the vision for Barry’s instructor strategy, aligning recruitment, training, and development with brand standards, business goals, and future growth
- Mentor new instructors throughout their training and initial teaching phases. Provide ongoing feedback and coaching to help them grow and succeed
- Champion Barry’s Mission, Vision, and Values by cultivating an instructor culture that is inclusive, collaborative, and performance-driven
- Partner with senior leadership on long-term talent planning, workforce strategies, and global expansion efforts
- Lead DEI strategies across the instructor team to ensure representation, equity, and belonging in all markets
- Mentor new instructors throughout their training and initial teaching phases. Provide ongoing feedback and coaching to help them grow and succeed
Instructor Development & Training
- Oversee the end-to-end instructor journey: recruitment, onboarding, new hire training, continuing education, and long-term career growth
- Provide consistent and clear brand feedback throughout each phase
- Assist with the training and onboarding of instructors for new studio locations, ensuring a seamless and consistent experience for both instructors and clients
- Drive the ongoing evolution of instructor training programs, ensuring they are dynamic, innovative, and aligned with Barry’s programming and safety standards
- Serve as a “Best of Brand” example by teaching classes periodically and maintaining a deep understanding of the Barry’s client and instructor experience
- Regularly audit instructor classes, gathering feedback through surveys and direct observation. Identify areas for improvement and develop action plans for individual instructors and regions
- Leverage data and feedback to evaluate training effectiveness, identify skill gaps, and implement enhancements
- Provide consistent and clear brand feedback throughout each phase
Performance Management & Coaching
- Create a high-performance culture by setting clear expectations, KPIs, and development goals for instructors and Talent leaders
- Mentor and coach regional Talent leaders to strengthen leadership capabilities and drive team engagement
- Guide performance conversations, progressive discipline, and career pathing in partnership with People & Culture and Operations teams
- Regularly review instructor performance metrics to ensure accountability, quality, and consistency across markets
Team Leadership
- Travel to different Barry’s locations and teach to maintain a direct connection with the brand, instructors, and clients
- Inspire, mentor, and develop the Talent team, fostering a culture of creativity, accountability, and growth
- Be the "Best of Brand" at all times, modeling impeccable programming and brand standards by delivering a WOW experience in every class taught
- Conduct new instructor training programs, ensuring that each instructor receives the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver exceptional classes. Audit the quality of training through post-training surveys and feedback
- Ensure team members are equipped with the tools, resources, and professional development opportunities to excel in their roles
- Maintain consistency to ensure all instructors, regardless of region or tenure, are delivering the Barry’s experience with consistency and excellence by regularly reviewing performance trends, collaborating with Talent Leaders and providing necessary feedback to support ongoing development of the Talent team

Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Talent, Operations, Strategy, and People & Culture to optimize instructor scheduling, compensation planning, and workforce deployment
- Maintain a strong pipeline of diverse instructor talent to meet evolving market needs
Operational & Data-Driven Excellence
- Oversee the composition and maintenance of the Instructor schedule for all regions
- Regularly monitor the schedule and analyze attendance on an Instructor and time slot basis, and look to make improvements when necessary
- Ensure all full-time Instructors are being held to their full-time requirements
- Monitor instructor KPIs—including production goals, class quality, and engagement metrics—to inform strategic decisions and ensure consistent execution
- Prepare and deliver regular performance and talent reports to senior leadership, highlighting trends, achievements, and areas for improvement
- Ensure compliance with employment policies, safety standards, and contractual obligations across all markets
Qualifications

- Knowledge of industry’s legal rules and guidelines
- Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics
- Familiarity with MS Office and various business software (e.g. ERP, CRM)
