Why This Job Matters
The Assurance & Stage Gate Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of our transformation portfolio by providing a first line, independent assurance and rigorous stage gate review capability. This role ensures that projects adhere to governance standards, deliver expected value, and mitigate potential risks proactively. By embedding a robust, data-driven assurance framework and integrating it into the planning and delivery cycles, the specialist drives accountability and enables early identification of issues, ensuring transformation efforts deliver measurable value and remain aligned with current and future strategic goals. This is a critical enabling role, providing independent oversight and driving continuous improvement across the programme.
What You’Ll Be Doing
- Lead the development and implementation of a data-driven assurance framework, leveraging advanced analytics and visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) to provide comprehensive insights into programme performance and risk.
- Conduct proactive, risk-based assurance reviews across all stages of the project lifecycle, identifying and escalating potential issues early to prevent delays and cost overruns.
- Conduct rigorous assurance reviews at each stage gate, producing concise executive summaries that highlight key findings, risks, and opportunities for improvement, ensuring programme/ project readiness for stage advancement and alignment with governance standards.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement, identifying and implementing best practices in assurance methodologies and tools to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Mentor and coach junior team members, fostering a high-performing team culture focused on quality assurance and risk mitigation.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive library of assurance templates, tools, and best practices, accessible to all programme teams.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across various departments to ensure alignment on assurance methodologies and reporting.
Skills And Experience
- Deep understanding of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid) and assurance frameworks (e.g., ISO 9001, COBIT).
- Proven ability to lead and deliver complex assurance projects, managing multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of tailoring information to diverse audiences (technical and non-technical).
- Transformation skillset, with the ability to implement frameworks and approaches in an evolving portfolio environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and develop effective mitigation strategies.
- Advanced knowledge of risk management principles and techniques, including qualitative and quantitative risk assessments approaching stage gates.
- Experience in developing and implementing continuous improvement plans, driving efficiency and effectiveness across assurance frameworks and stage gate criteria for Technology-enabled delivery Programmes (e.g. ITIL)
- Comprehensive understanding of stage gate methodologies and their application in ensuring project success and compliance with governance standards.
Experience you would be expected to have
- Extensive experience in leading and delivering complex assurance projects within large-scale and technology-enabled transformation programmes.
- Experience in developing and implementing data-driven assurance frameworks, leveraging advanced analytics and visualisation tools.
- Track record of mentoring and coaching junior team members, fostering a high-performing team culture.
- Experience working with senior stakeholders and Executive teams, effectively communicating complex information and influencing decision-making.
- Proven ability to adapt assurance methodologies to different project contexts and organisational requirements.
- Experience in developing and implementing continuous improvement plans, driving efficiency and effectiveness.
- Experience with different assurance frameworks and methodologies.
