Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to assist the youth leader with all youth and after school programs. This position will help guide, develop, and assist with mission driven programs and opportunities that cater to the spiritual needs of the community and congregation.
Essential Functions
- Assist Corps Officers and Youth Leader with the delivery of Salvation Army youth programs, afterschool activities, and family ministry initiatives. Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and role modeling for children and youth to ensure safety, well-being, and positive spiritual development.
- Support youth and family outreach, helping programs grow both spiritually and numerically.
- Communicate effectively with leaders, parents, and children, modeling Christian values and professionalism.
- Maintain all required Salvation Army training and certifications, including Protect the Mission (PTM) standards for child and vulnerable adult safety.
- Provide academic support through homework help, tutoring, and structured learning activities.
- Lead or assist in music, arts, and recreational activities that promote teamwork, creativity, character, and healthy lifestyles.
- Prepare and serve snacks in compliance with health and safety guidelines
- Ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all students by maintaining appropriate behavior management.
- Track student participation and progress, providing feedback to parents and Corps leadership as needed.
- Assist with program administration, including registration, attendance, set-up/clean-up, and promotion of youth activities.
- Support seasonal events, corps-wide initiatives, and community center programs as assigned.
- Aid in promoting and developing partnerships, programs, and opportunities that meet community needs.
- Network with other youth-serving agencies and programs to expand opportunities for participants.
- Assist with fundraising events and efforts that support youth and family programs (as directed).
- Must be available for flexible scheduling, including evenings and weekends, as program needs require.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Must be able to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Must be able to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (required)
- CA Driver’s license (required)
- 18 years of age (required)
- Experience in Christian education (preferred)
- Experience in ministry and church context
- Experience working with youth (2 years preferred)
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (Usually file boxes)
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Great communication skills
- Ability to lead group activities and events as needed
- Computer literate and highly versed in social media platforms
- Ability to read, write, speak understand English.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Windows, and use of Word and Excel.
- CPR/First Aid Certification preferred
