Legal Counsel

We’re seeking a dedicated legal professional to join our team in providing essential legal services, corporate stewardship, and risk management support. In this role, you’ll contribute to our mission and help us uphold the standards at Bayer CropScience. You’ll be working with local, regional and global law colleagues and liaising with external counsel, customers, and professionals across all levels at Bayer CropScience.


Bayer is committed to a flexible hybrid working envionment. This is a permanent position based out of our Calgary, AB office location.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide strategic legal counsel to local and global business partners, senior management, and project teams.
  • Negotiate and draft commercial agreements with a high level of expertise.
  • Offer guidance on pricing strategies and review marketing and advertising materials for compliance.
  • Uphold corporate leadership by stewarding our Corporate Compliance Policy and fostering commitment to Bayer values.
  • Deliver risk management services, including legal counseling for strategic planning, participating in risk analysis, and leading crisis management initiatives.
  • Manage litigation risks and oversee litigation files to mitigate potential issues.
  • Optimize our intellectual property strategy through prosecution, licensing, monitoring, and enforcement.
  • Engage in Bayer’s country, regional, and global legal initiatives, contributing to ongoing and special project committees.
  • Work collaboratively with outside counsel as necessary.

Who You Are:

  • A member of a Provincial Bar or Law Society in Canada, with the intention to become a member of the Law Society of Alberta.
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience in-house or in private practice.
  • Proven legal judgment and strong strategic and analytical capabilities.
  • Demonstrated business acumen, along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Additional Skills And Experience:

  • Proficiency in drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts.
  • Ability to develop and maintain trusted advisor relationships with stakeholders, including external counsel and clients at all levels.
  • Effective management of tight timelines and competing priorities.
  • Experience in any of the following areas would be advantageous:
  • Intellectual property prosecution and enforcement
  • Competition law
  • Corporate risk and issue management at critical levels
