Job Summary:

LifeSafety Management is seeking a Fire Alarm System Designer. This position is responsible for surveying and laying out fire alarm and low voltage systems. The position will obtain design documents for a project and using sound design techniques create a system layout in conformance with applicable NFPA, building, and local codes. This position will report directly to the fire alarm department manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review entire architectural drawings for the project including any provided electrical, mechanical, fire protection, floor, reflected ceiling and/or other system plans.
  • Review sales scope to ensure design proposed is in line with sale objective.
  • Identify any specific equipment requirements and/or conflicts and communicate issues to fire alarm department manager.
  • Survey field conditions of existing site equipment prior to or during the design phase.
  • Identify existing circuit paths as necessary on existing systems.
  • Layout control panels, power supplies, device locations, wire pathways per architectural documents in accordance with NFPA 72, NFPA 70, building codes, and local ordinances as required.
  • Perform battery calculations and voltage drop calculations as required.
  • Work with operations team on change order needs and develop estimate for change orders on existing projects
  • Participate in WIP meetings as necessary to understand job cost over and under projections.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years experience in the fire alarm industry is required, estimating and/or field experience is preferred
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, FireCAD, AlarmCAD or equivalent fire protection design software.
  • NICET certification in Fire Alarm System is preferred.
  • Notifier product knowledge preferred but not required.
  • Able to operate independently with minimal direct supervision
  • Must build positive working relationships with multiple levels of employee and management across departments.
  • Demonstrate integrity and professionalism.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Must prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record

Compensation:

$35.00 - $43.00/hour (based on experience and qualifications)

Final rate may be negotiable based on skills, certifications, and role fit.

This position requires frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching. The position requires climbing ladders and scaffolds, as well as the ability to work in excess of 40 feet above the ground. He/she must be able to navigate the jobsite and must comply with all company safety requirements in the office and on the jobsite. Heavy equipment may be used and he/she needs to be able to lift weighty objects up to 50 lbs above his/her head.
