Position Summary
Metrea is looking for an experienced software developer to join our team and to lead the development and usage of the Source Development Kit utilised by our Simulation Engine, NOR. As the Staff Engineer for SDK, you will be responsible for shaping and maintaining a robust SDK that supports multiple versions and ensures backward compatibility whilst balancing the need to maintain a slick developer experience. This role demands a thoughtful approach to API design, a strong commitment to minimising and gracefully handling breaking changes, and a deep curiosity for Unreal Engine internals—particularly around plugin, asset management, and the cooking process. The ideal candidate will bring experience in developing editor-like tools and producing clear, maintainable technical documentation.
This role will require you to be a team player who enjoys working in a multidisciplinary environment and expects you to be communicative and independent in your work. You should be motivated to find creative and scalable solutions for complex problems.
Role And Responsibilities
As the Technical Lead for our SDK, you will work with a small dedicated team to further the evolution of our tools and documentation to ensure that our SDK delivers exactly what its users need to quickly and easily develop assets for use within our NOR Simulation Engine. You will work with the Product Owner for SDK to advise[AK1] on timelines, complexity and resource requirements to ensure that our roadmap for the SDK is realistic. You will interact on a daily basis with a wide range of both internal and external users of the SDK to help understand their pain-points, deepen their understanding and ensure that the product delivers everything that it needs to be successful. Whilst this role has no direct line management responsibilities, you will act as a mentor and guide for other more junior engineers working on the SDK.
Skills And Experience
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a library or project used by others across multiple versions, including backwards compatible
- Willingness to acquire in-depth knowledge of Unreal Engine internals, especially around plugin & asset management and the cooking process
- Experience from the video game industry
- Passion for anything aerospace-related
- Experience with simulation training tools development
- Experience with large-scale games or simulations
- Experience with wargames
- Experience working with international teams

- 5+ years of professional C++ programming

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time non-exempt position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 17:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require. Non-Exempt employees may be required to work over 40 hours per week with approval from the department manager.
