Spanish Literacy InstructorGardner Pilot AcademyAdult Basic Education Program @ Charlesview Inc.135 Antwerp StreetBrighton, MA 02135 Job Description: Part-Time Evening Position (8 hours /week, 2 evenings) 

(Program runs September - June)

Key Responsibilities

●      Teach in a dynamic, community-oriented non-profit program five hours each week with four additional hours of prep time●      Use the customized Spanish curriculum to tackle the participants' specific challenges to help build a strong literacy foundation. Key components include:o   Alphabet Mastery: Focusing on phonetics, pronunciation, and essential grammatical principles, such as articles, gender, and plural forms.  o   Vocabulary Development: Introducing commonly used words and phrases, including greetings, family terms, professions, and everyday objects.  o   Elementary Reading and Writing: Using beginner-friendly texts, such as short sentences, poems, and stories, paired with basic writing exercises to enhance literacy skills.●      Track student progress, focusing on engagement●      Provide resource and referral information to students●      Work with other program staff on continuously improving the quality of class instruction and program administration●      Assist with retention of students by forwarding student attendance information to Program Director and Administrative Assistant for follow-up with students●      Participate in professional development activities, including observations, staff meetings, and workshops.

Skills, Knowledge And Expertise

Requirements:●      Native Spanish speaker ●      B.A. or related experience preferred●      Prior teaching experience with adults●      Strong communication skills●      Ability to work cooperatively with others●      Energy and enthusiasm●      Understanding of the immigrant population●      Awareness of local community resources
