Role Overview

Teck is a leading Canadian resource company focused on responsibly providing the metals essential for global development and the energy transition while caring for the people, communities and land that we love.

Reporting to the Manager, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), the Financial Analyst is responsible for preparing monthly consolidated business performance reports and conducting financial analysis to identify key issues and trends for the consolidated Teck operations and support functions. The Analyst is accountable for all facets of the annual budgeting cycle, monthly updates to financial forecasts, the capital planning and prioritization process, operational and financial performance review and trends analysis, and quarterly board performance reporting.

This role collaborates closely with other areas such as operations’ finance and planning teams, Finance Business Partners, Treasury, Tax, Accounting, and Assurance & Advisory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Support the Annual Budget processes including maintaining standards and templates, supporting consolidation of inputs and preparing analysis and insights to support decisions made by senior management
  • Conduct analysis of financial performance versus plan and provide a summary of key variance and trends affecting the business
  • Provide other supporting analysis to management regarding expected financial performance and sensitivity to changes in key profit drivers
  • Prepare monthly forecast reports for the business and operations including analysis of key changes in forecasts and assumptions
  • Assist in messaging of Business Unit performance to internal / external stakeholders including preparation of Investment Relations and MD&A material
  • Build and maintain financial models to allow scenario evaluation
  • Facilitate capital allocation and budgeting processes supporting standardization for informed prioritization
  • Prepare presentation and information packages to support senior management in decision making
  • Continuously develops a comprehensive understanding of Teck’s operations and key development projects, as well as commodities and metals mining industry more generally
  • Focus on continuous improvement on all FP&A processes, tools, reports and products

Qualifications

  • Degree in Business, Economics, Mathematics or a related field
  • Professional designation related to finance (e.g. Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Professional Accountant), or Master of Business Administration (MBA)
  • 3-7 years of meaningful work experience or in a role with transferrable skills which would ideally include previous mining industry and Enterprise Planning Systems experience
  • Significant ability to develop and interpret financial models with a deep understanding of business drivers and relevant outputs required to promote decision making. Strong understanding of operational impact to financial performance and financial reporting
  • Confirmed ability to build positive relationships with diverse groups
  • Expertise at gathering and synthesizing inputs, framing opportunities and leading decision-making conversations from a fact-based position
  • Detailed understanding of analytical methods and concepts in finance with the ability to apply economic, accounting, financial and investment principles to the solution of corporate business problems. Highly knowledgeable in financial statements impacts from various business activities
  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work with personnel at all levels of seniority from other functional areas across Teck and external organizations
  • A self-starter who can prioritize amongst multiple projects at once and work with limited guidance; able to work in a highly ambiguous environment with agility
  • A student of the industry – possess or develop the background and expertise to contribute to commodity and industry specific analysis both regionally and globally
  • High degree of critical thinking and analytical skills. A proficiency to apply economic, accounting, financial and investment principles to solve corporate business problems
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Meticulous and consistently accurate with a strong work ethic and the mental agility to learn new skills and processes for the benefit of the organization

Pay Range: CAD $93,000 - $115,000 per year

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
