Job Description

The role is responsible for leading, supporting implementation / training, reporting and coordinating the Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental policies, management plans, standards and systems at JHB West Campus operations. The role also ensures implementation, co-ordination and maintenance of Group Standards (ISO 45001 and 14001) and is responsible for overseeing incident investigations.

  • Assist in compiling annual safety budgets and monitor expenses
  • Managing Environmental Risk, Resources & Opportunities
  • Proactively identify immediate environmental risks and opportunities in own area and applies knowledge to suggest solutions.
  • Develop plans for auditing of Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental performance at Upstream Technology JHB, emergency response plans and Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental related training.
  • Managing Safety Risks
  • Create solutions to positively impact safety to minimize future risk and encourage individual accountability.
  • Co-ordinate and participate in Risk Assessments for the operation and lead in relevant incident investigations.
  • Report on all incidents externally and internally. Track, monitor, investigate and analyze Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental statistics to ensure risk areas are identified.
  • Managing Health Risks and Promoting Wellness
  • Proactively address health risks in own area and promote key health management activities
  • Lead activities that encourage health and wellbeing within the company
  • Integrated Risk Management
  • Apply tools and techniques to identify the key factors that contribute to risk and harm.
  • Manage and support the line on implementing Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies and standards and oversee the development and implementation of Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental improvement plans.
  • Adress all findings related to ISO 45001 / 14001 audits
  • Project Management & SHE Business Process Modelling
  • Applies project management techniques to effectively manage project activities and audit preparedness.
  • Performance Reporting
  • Gather accurate performance data and promote the value of effective reporting and data management systems.
  • Ensure effective monitoring of performance data within own area, challenge and escalate issues to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Implement Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental reporting requirements and monitor and report on Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental performance to the 16.2, S&SD Leads and the business unit
  • Mining & Process Operations
  • Understands key operational processes and the impact of S/H/E practices on mining production
  • Mine safety, security and environmental effectiveness
  • Ensure legal compliance in terms of Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Management is maintained.
  • Comply with OHSAS requirements and ensures adherence to the company's policies, procedures and programmes

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Safety or related qualification

Experience

  • 5 years’ experience in Mining / Fabrication or related fields
  • 2 years’ experience in contractor management and legal compliance auditing (safety)
