 COMPENSATION INFORMATION
The salary range(s) represents our good faith estimate for the role at this time. While we strive to provide competitive and transparent compensation, there may be circumstances where an offer is above or outside of the listed range. We are open to discussing salary expectations with qualified candidates considering factors such as the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, experience and geographic location will all be considered during the hiring process.

  • Sr. Engineer Pay Range: $106,500 - $123,700
  • Sr. Engineer II Pay Range: $123,700 - $135,000

Join our team as an Engineer – Generator Interconnections!

Southwest Power Pool (SPP) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineer – Generator Interconnections to join our dynamic engineering team. In this role, you will lead and contribute to technical studies and project management activities supporting Generator Interconnection (GI) studies under the SPP Tariff. You will apply advanced engineering judgment, mentor junior engineers, and coordinate with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely study completion.

  • Conduct Technical Studies: Perform power flow, short-circuit, and transient stability analyses to support Generator Interconnection (GI) requests.
  • Lead Projects: Manage GI study projects, ensuring timely, accurate delivery while mentoring junior engineers.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Coordinate with internal teams, transmission owners, interconnection customers, and consultants to gather data, resolve issues, and communicate results.
  • Support Process Improvement: Enhance engineering tools and procedures, recommend automation opportunities, and implement best practices.
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Apply SPP’s OATT (Attachment V), FERC/NERC standards, and SPP planning criteria to all studies.
  • Contribute to Team Culture: Promote knowledge-sharing, training, and alignment with SPP’s core values and strategic goals.

To be successful as the Senior Engineer we're looking for:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, this degree should:
  • Be from a university that meets the requirements to sit for the Professional Engineering exam (in Arkansas, that is most typically a degree from an ABET accredited university or a graduate degree from a college that has an ABET accreditation),
  • The degree should be in a calculus-based engineering field, and preferred degree programs are Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineering
  • Sr Engineer – Five (5) years of relevant engineering experience, a professional engineer license, or an advanced degree may satisfy the requirement for one year of experience.
  • Sr Engnieer II - Nine (9) years of relevant engineering experience; a Professional Engineer license or an advanced degree in related field of study may satisfy the requirement for one (1) year of experience. Two (2) years of experience may satisfy both a Professional Engineer license and an advanced degree in related field.
  • Strong knowledge of one or more power systems analysis tools applicable to power system steady state, dynamic, production costs & economics, or database management systems
  • Good working knowledge of and skills with communication and data handling software such as Microsoft Office© Word, Excel, Access
  • Strong inter-personal and team work skills
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with power system engineering, operations engineering, or transmission planning

Preferred:

  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Advanced degree in related field of study
  • Electric Utility Industry experience
  • Project leader experience

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of the workweek are Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Working extended hours may be required.

Travel Requirement:

  • This position requires moderate travel (approximately 10-15%)
