What You'Ll Do

Solutions Architects are trusted technical and business advisors who partner with customers to design, prototype, and deliver solutions on the Mapbox platform. You connect business needs with technical possibilities, helping customers turn data, mobility, and mapping into effective digital experiences. You collaborate with account managers to lead technical engagements — from discovery and design to solution validation and deployment. You guide customers in using Mapbox products strategically to achieve measurable business outcomes.

This role is ideal for someone who combines technical depth with commercial acumen, enjoys working directly with customers, and thrives at the intersection of strategy, architecture, and delivery.

  • Solution Architecture: Design and present scalable, architectures using Mapbox SDKs, APIs, and platform services.
  • Technical Discovery: Lead technical discussions to identify customer goals, challenges, and requirements.
  • Prototyping & Proof of Value: Build and deliver proof-of-concept solutions that demonstrate customer value.
  • Pre-Sales Enablement: Partner with Account Executives to position technical differentiation and shape opportunities.
  • Location Intelligence: Apply expertise in GIS, spatial data processing, and business value.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate effectively with developers, architects, and senior decision-makers.
  • Customer Advocacy: Provide structured feedback from the field, and raise feature requests to influence Mapbox product and engineering roadmaps.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay current on emerging technologies in mapping, visualization, mobility, and AI.
  • Collaborate with automotive customers and partners on navigation, ADAS, connected vehicles, and software-defined vehicles.
  • Design and validate architectures for real-time telemetry, routing, and EV ecosystem solutions.
  • Work with embedded systems, vehicle E/E architectures, and map delivery pipelines.
  • Partner with OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers, supporting integration of Mapbox technologies into in-vehicle systems and connected platforms.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams to define, test, and scale innovative in-vehicle experiences powered by Mapbox.

What We Believe Are Important Traits For This Role

  • Experience: 8+ years in solutions architecture, pre-sales engineering, or enterprise consulting with a record of customer-facing success.
  • Language: Fluent in Japanese and English (both written and verbal communication)
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • Domain Expertise: Proven experience with GIS, location intelligence, and geospatial data processing, including spatial databases, vector and raster data, geocoding, routing, and map rendering.
  • Technical Skills

  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (certification in AWS, Azure, or GCP is desirable).
  • Proven experience with web and mobile technologies (Required: JavaScript. Highly desirable: Swift, Kotlin, Python. Desirable: React Native, Flutter).
  • Proven experience with back-end APIs and front-end SDKs in geospatial and mobility domains.
  • Architecture & Design: Proven ability to translate complex requirements into scalable, robust technical architectures aligned with customer objectives.
  • Solution Selling: Demonstrated ability to articulate how technical architectures deliver business value, connecting design decisions to commercial outcomes and ROI.
  • Collaboration: Proven ability to work autonomously while effectively partnering across distributed, cross-functional teams (Sales, Product, Engineering, and Customer Success).
  • Communication: Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills with both technical and executive audiences.
  • Strategic Mindset: Capable of bridging high-level business strategy with technical implementation.
  • Mobility: Willingness to travel up to 25% for customer meetings, workshops, and industry events.
  • Experience collaborating with OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers, preferably in navigation, ADAS, connected-vehicle, or SDV programs.
  • Understanding of automotive software stacks, E/E architectures, and middleware integration.
  • Familiarity with vehicle data telemetry, map delivery, and over-the-air (OTA) update workflows.
  • Experience in real-time systems, embedded development environments, or automotive cloud connectivity.
  • Ability to operate within automotive lifecycle processes (requirements management, validation, homologation).
