About the team and position

As part of Carvana’s Marketplaces Financial Planning & Analysis team, you'll fuel the growth of Carvana’s auto auction subsidiary, ADESA, by diving into complex datasets from diverse sources. Your work will enhance speed, cost, and quality across our nation-wide portfolio. Our Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team drives strategic decision-making and optimizing financial performance across the organization. By leveraging our proven strategies and collaborating with our internal network of trailblazers, you'll work to integrate ADESA into Carvana’s broader business. Our team collaborates closely with various departments to analyze financial trends, develop comprehensive forecasts, manage incentive compensation, and ensure alignment with the company's growth objectives.

We’re looking to hire a motivated and high-energy Financial Planning and Analysis Manager who will help provide financial support as well as accurate and timely management information to ADESA and Carvana’s leadership team. You will also be responsible for assisting the development and maintenance of the Financial Planning and Analysis process to collect, analyze, verify, and report financial information. The position reports into the Director of FP&A. 

What you’ll be doing

  • Develop, maintain, and iterate on forecast models that are critical to manage the growth of all of Carvana and ADESA’s business lines
  • Manage operational and sales incentive performance modeling, targeting and planning, working cross functionally with ADESA / Carvana leadership
  • Analyze large datasets, utilizing SQL, Snowflake, Python, or similar tools to actively monitor performance and identify efficiency opportunities across various functional areas of the business.
  • Build, maintain, and manage dashboards using Tableau or similar to explain/communicate operational performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Carvana Remarketing, Logistics, ADESA Inspections,  and other teams to ensure alignment with Carvana and ADESA’s strategy and leverage our internal analytical capabilities.
  • Lead monthly forecasting activities; lead recurring discovery meetings with department leaders.
  • Support the monthly business performance review process, in coordination with key business leaders.
  • Construct internal management reporting and produce variance analysis to help us understand how our business stacks up to our forecast 
  • Build headcount and personnel cost tracking and related models and forecasts.
  • Generate other ad hoc reporting and analysis.

What you should know/have

  • 5+ years of experience in a corporate finance or consulting environment. Those with a relevant Master's degree may require less experience, typically reducing the required experience by 1-2 years.
  • BA/BS degree in finance, accounting, mathematics or related field.
  • Strong financial modeling skills are a must, together with demonstrated capabilities building financial forecasts.
  • Strong communication (written and oral), presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced Excel modeling and PowerPoint skills.
  • Strong system skills with preference towards Oracle, Workday and Tableau.
  • Proficiency with SQL
  • Knowledge of basic accounting concepts (accruals, matching, etc…)
  • Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Self-starter with strong analytical abilities and highly motivated to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to collaborate among multiple business units.
  • Analytical mindset with ability to present data in a structured and informative way.
  • Professional and accountable work ethic.
  • Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks and work within deadlines with little supervision.
