Why Join Alo?
Mindful movement. It’s at the core of why we do what we do at ALO—it’s our calling. Because mindful movement in the studio leads to better living. It changes who yogis are off the mat, making their lives and their communities better. That’s the real meaning of studio-to-street: taking the consciousness from practice on the mat and putting it into practice in life.
Overview
We’re seeking an Associate Director, Packaging Design & Strategy to lead the evolution of ALO’s global packaging program. This role will define the packaging system that delivers on our luxury wellness aesthetic while driving sustainability, operational efficiency, and brand consistency across womenswear, menswear, luxury bags, beauty, footwear, and wellness.
As part of the Brand Creative team, you’ll partner closely with our Design Director and collaborate across merchandising, operations, sustainability, and retail to ensure packaging elevates the brand experience at every touchpoint — in store, online, and in the unboxing moment.
Responsibilities
- Working closely with the Design Director, define ALO’s packaging vision & system: brand architecture, tiering (core/premium/luxury/gifting), and a coherent unboxing/retail experience across categories and channels.
- Build a cohesive portfolio of packaging solutions that reflect ALO’s premium, luxury-driven aesthetic while balancing functionality, scalability, and cost.
- Develop brand packaging guidelines: Create toolkits for materials, finishes, colors, and sustainability standards that unify packaging across categories and channels.
- Lead research & strategy: Audit competitors and adjacent industries (luxury fashion, beauty, lifestyle) to inform innovation and differentiation.
- Conduct hands-on research: Attend industry tradeshows, supplier showcases, and competitive shopping experiences to identify emerging materials, finishes, and sustainability innovations.
- Collaborate cross-functionally: Partner with Merchandising, Sustainability, Ops, and Sourcing to align packaging design with global needs and supply chain realities.
- Vendor partnership: Establish standards for quality and color, evaluate new materials, and oversee prototypes through to approval.
- Mentorship: Provide direction and creative guidance to a Packaging Production Designer, ensuring design integrity translates into flawless execution.
- Drive sustainability: Advance ALO’s goals by introducing recyclable, renewable, and minimal-waste packaging solutions that reinforce our values
Qualifications
- 8+ years of relevant experience in packaging design, with proven impact in luxury retail, fashion, or beauty.
- Strong portfolio showcasing luxury packaging systems and an elevated aesthetic.
- Deep knowledge of materials, print processes, and finishing techniques that deliver premium experiences. Strategic thinker with ability to balance creativity, operations, and sustainability.
- Proficient in modern design and production software applications necessary for packaging design; able to adapt quickly to new tools and workflows.
- Strong communicator and collaborator, comfortable presenting to creative leadership and crossfunctional partners.
