About the Role
The Assistant Produce Buyer will purchase radically fresh produce that will be sold through the Good Eggs marketplace. This position will function as the main point of contact for producers in their commodity group. This role is responsible for continuously identifying and determining optimum sources of produce supply.

About the Role
The Assistant Produce Buyer will purchase radically fresh produce that will be sold through the Good Eggs marketplace. This position will function as the main point of contact for producers in their commodity group. This role is responsible for continuously identifying and determining optimum sources of produce supply.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Purchase produce within assigned categories or commodities
- Take into account supply agreements set up by Category Manager
- Interpret projections to ensure adequate supply to fulfill demand in the warehouse
- Work with Category Manager on promotional and pricing strategy for your assigned categories or commodities
- Set and monitor pricing to ensure that financial and departmental targets are met
- Ensure that Good Eggs’ pricing is competitive and a good value to customers
- Assist in cost negotiations
- Build strong and collaborative relationships with producers in assigned category or commodity
- Provide short-term forecasts to producer partners for upcoming needs
- Create quarterly and yearly vendor scorecards
- Participate in supplier business reviews
- Own PO and COGs data accuracy
- Audit gross margin data
- Reconcile invoices against received purchase orders
- Keep Days On Hand (DOH) to target goals by storage zone and category
- New item set up and onboarding
- Work with cross functional teams to minimize spoilage and maximize availability
- Work with QC team to ensure all inbound produce meets standards for quality, condition and grade
- Provide timely and thorough feedback to growers regarding product quality
- Make and resolve credit requests
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- 1+ years relevant work experience, buying produce, produce retail/distribution, professional kitchens, or working with farms
- Experience in procurement / purchasing, preferably in the produce industry
- Knowledge of local and regional produce varieties, growing practices, quality standards and seasonality
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Outstanding communication and time management skills
- Knowledge of quality standards and industry certifications
- Experience managing relationships with outside vendors
- Understanding of margins and profitability
- Proficiency in Google and MS Office suite software (i.e. spreadsheets, presentation, and word processing software)
- Ability to understand and engage with new tools
- Strong negotiation skills
- Ability to read, write and speak English, bi-lingual a plus but not required.
- Strong team player
Working Conditions
- Open concept office environment within a warehouse setting. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 30% of the time. The working environment is somewhat noisy. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions.
- Some work duties are performed in an open warehouse, with open dock doors. Temperatures can fluctuate by up to 20 degrees depending on the weather outside.
- Some work duties may be performed in walk in coolers and freezers (temperatures as low as -10°F)
- Some work duties may be performed outdoors.
- Some work duties may include temporary assignments.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in English. Regular use of computers. Ability to stand and sit. Ability to lift 25 pounds.
