General Description:
We are looking for a senior finance professional to lead the Swiss Controlling team, joining our newly established Global Business Service centre in Warsaw, Poland. This is a key position for an experienced, ambitious finance professional who is motivated to contribute to developing the finance function as BeOne Medicines builds out its presence across the globe. The position will lead the controlling activities in our SAP Record-to-Reporting processes across our Swiss principal structure. The incumbent will take the lead to deal with operational and process enhancements as well as adopt a hands-on approach to technical and complex tasks. Strong communication and cultural sensitivity are required to coordinate the activities collaborating with functional stakeholders such as FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Legal, HR, and Distribution at a global level. The ideal candidate will have accounting expertise across the European landscape including transfer pricing, international accounting standards knowledge and experience managing cross-border financial operations. As a valuable resource to the organization the incumbent is pro-active and brings strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a non-structured environment. Ability to lead and keep motivated a diverse team in a hybrid working model and driving process excellence is key, as too having a customer orientated resourceful mindset which completes the desired profile.
This role will be responsible for the following duties for our Nordic legal entities with a hybrid work pattern, 3 days per week in our Warsaw office with 2 days remote.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Reporting & Compliance:
- Oversee the general ledger operations of the Swiss entities, ensuring timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Ensure compliance with USGAAP, Swiss Code of Obligations, as well as Swiss GAAP FARE.
- Collaborate with external auditors and local accounting firms to manage statutory audits, tax filings, and compliance matters.
- With the support of Legal, manage regulatory filings and statutory reporting, ensuring that all financial statements meet the legal requirements of the jurisdictions in which the company operates.
- Collaborate with Technical Accounting team to review collaboration and Gross to Net agreements ensuring that they are properly accounted for.
2. Swiss Principal Structure Management:
- Work closely with the tax department and where applicable external consultants to ensure compliance with Swiss regulations, transfer pricing rules, and intercompany agreements.
- Ensure the proper allocation of profits and costs across the company's European entities under the Swiss Principal model.
- Monitor and maintain all accounting entries related to intercompany transactions, transfer pricing adjustments, and profit allocation for the Swiss Principal entity structure.
- Internal Controls & Risk Management:
- Process Improvement & Systems Integration
- Leadership & Team Management
- Maintain robust internal controls across all European entities, ensuring the integrity of financial data, compliance with company policies, and prevention of fraud or financial misstatements. Undertake activities such as Balance Sheet Reviews and analytical controls such as Flux analysis.
- In collaboration with Internal Controls team, maintain and execute all assigned SOX controls ensuring a robust internal control environment is upheld.
- Continuously assess and improve risk management practices within the accounting function, identifying and mitigating financial risks.
- Implement best practices for internal audit processes and ensure audit readiness for all entities under the Swiss Principal structure.
4. Cross Functional Collaborations:
- Collaborate with country commercial finance directors to ensure consistency in financial reporting, while addressing local accounting and tax regulations specific to each jurisdiction.
- Partner with the tax department to support managing and optimizing the European tax structure.
- Coordinate closely with the legal, tax and intercompany teams to ensure that intercompany agreements, transfer pricing policies, and any cross-border transactions comply with local and international laws.
- Collaborate with the treasury team to ensure efficient cash management, currency exchange management, and financing for hub structure.
- Serve as a key liaison between European Controlling team and Consolidations team, providing appropriate support as required during the period close.
- Identify and implement opportunities to standardize and streamline accounting processes across European entities and Swiss Principal structure, driving improvements in efficiency and accuracy.
- Support the implementation of new accounting tools (e.g. Blackline), systems or upgrades to the current ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems to enhance automation, reporting capabilities, and financial transparency across the region.
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and technology adoption to reduce manual accounting efforts and enhance data accuracy and decision-making.
6. Strategic Leadership
- Work closely with senior leadership to develop and execute financial strategies for both the Global and European regions, providing financial insights and recommendations that align with corporate goals and support business growth.
- Effectively Recruit, lead, mentor, and develop a team of Controlling professionals in a hybrid work model.
- Provide oversight for Controlling team members, ensuring they adhere to the company’s financial policies, regulatory requirements, and accounting best practices.
- Support the personal and professional growth of direct reports, conducting performance evaluations and providing regular feedback.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Build out an initial team comprising Assistant Controller and 2 GL Accountants
Education Required: Accounting/Business/Finance Bachelor’s Degree
Computer Skills: SAP S/4 Hana, Blackline, Ariba, Excel, Power BI, Concur, Workday, on-line banking
Other Qualifications:
- Accounting/Business/Finance Bachelor degree with 8+ years of Accounting experience
- Experience in managing finance operations in a Swiss Principal structure is highly desirable whilst having at least managed other European entities is required
- Strong understanding of USGAAP, European accounting standards, tax regulations
- Multinational finance environment with a proven track record of leadership and driving process improvements, ideally within the life sciences/pharma industry
- In-depth understanding of transfer pricing, intercompany accounting, and tax optimization in a multinational context.
- Experience managing statutory audits, financial reporting, and compliance matters
- Ability to lead and effectively manage a diverse team in a hybrid working model
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for internal stakeholder collaboration
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP 4 Hana, Blackline)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Project Management experience a plus
- Desire to work in a fast paced, changing (currently unstructured) environment
- Excellent communication skills combined with cultural sensitivity, excellent spoken/written English – any other languages a plus
