Senior Mechanical Engineer

Job Description:

General Responsibilities:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer, working from a home office and reporting remotely to Belkin’s Shenzhen, China office, will lead ODM partners in developing mobile phone cases and screen protection accessories. This role oversees all aspects of design, material selection, engineering validation, and manufacturing process development carried out by ODMs, ensuring each project meets 4ON targets (On-Time, On-Spec, On-Cost, On-Volume). The ideal candidate will manage a high volume of projects, stay highly organized, and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including SQA, Sourcing, Industrial Design, Product Management, Product Development, and Engineering Program Management, to drive successful product launches.

Although this role is primarily remote, it requires periodic travel to Belkin’s Shenzhen office, vendor facilities, and select customer sites as determined by project requirements and management’s discretion. The selected candidate will be required to complete initial training at Belkin’s Shenzhen office prior to beginning remote work.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Lead ODM’s design, prototype, and validation of phone cases and screen protection accessories.
• Support the full product development cycle from concept to manufacturing.
• Manage tooling, fixture, and process development to ensure the products meet Belkin’s quality standards.
• Lead ODMs in problem-solving when technical problems occur.
• Maintain design CAD files and drawings within PDM system.
• Manage Mechanical BOM and ECO updates through the use of Agile (PLM).
• Responsible for coordinating quotation packages
• Proactively seeks cost reduction opportunities.
• Review and analyze EVT, DVT, and PVT reports provided by the ODMs. Lead design, tooling, and process debug activities.
• Participate in new supplier qualification and audit.
• The ability to manage new and unique situations with minimal supervision.
• Travel to Belkin Shenzhen office, Supplier sites, and customer sites as needed. Travel requirements will be determined by the manager.
• Review and analyze EVT, DVT, and PVT reports provided by the ODMs. Lead design, tooling, and process debug activities.
• Participate in new supplier qualification and audit.
• The ability to manage new and unique situations with minimal supervision.

Education And Experience Requirements:

• BSME or MSME/MSIE preferred.
• Minimum 8 years of related work experience in phone case and screen protection product development required
• Program management experience is a plus.
• Good problem-solving skills, especially in relation to troubleshooting plastic injection molding, aesthetic defects, part failure, processing issues, etc.
• Strong knowledge of materials such as plastic, silicone, TPU, carbon fiber, glass, adhesive films and their manufacturing processes is required.
• Experience in finishing, decorating, laminating, and other secondary operations is required.
• Tooling drawing review and approval experience is a must
• At least 4 years of Creo experience is a must. ISDX experience preferred.
• Hands-on experience in a fast-paced and high-quality manufacturing environment with a good working understanding of high-volume manufacturing processes is preferred.
• Knowledge in Production Part Approval Process (PPAP - gage R&R, FAI, cpk, control plan).
• Analytical and/or numerical engineering analysis, including tolerance stack-up, and moldflow experience preferred.
• Experience in working with cross-functional team, managing multiple projects concurrently.
• Strong planning, scheduling, and presentation skills
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written) with the product development teams in the USA. 
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint experience is a must.
