Job Summary

The jobholder is required to support the implementation of the People Partnering agenda in Absa Bank Mauritius Limited (ABML) in providing People ‘best practice’ solutions to the business.

• To be an active and influential team player in the effective diagnosis of business issues/ strategy and goals, and adding value to their delivery through the development and implementation of appropriate People Plans (E.g. STP, MTP)

• Take a proactive role in the implementation of change as required within business areas assigned.

• Excelling at bringing together best practice within the People function and the resources within the business areas, in order to shape and brilliantly execute the people agenda in a timely manner

• To execute in partnership with business leadership teams, on People issues such as resourcing, reward, employee relations, talent, performance, organisation development/change, culture, leadership and learning and development.

Job Description

Strategy Development and Partnering

  • Lead the implementation of a comprehensive People Strategy for business that drives achievement of the business strategy.
  • Position the People Function as a strategic people partner and create strategies and measures to facilitate the People Function’s contribution to achievement of key business performance areas including financial, customer, employee engagement, and transformation.
  • Champion the embedding of Absa’s Values and desired Culture in the business.
  • Champion the achievement of the overall Absa Group Limited Transformation objectives, including employment equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Involvement and driving strategic human capital projects.

Accountability: Human Capital Value Chain ownership

  • Provide end to end advisory, coaching, strategy development and implementation across the People Function Value Chain including Talent Acquisition; Onboarding; Learning and Development; Employee Engagement, Wellness and Wellbeing; Performance Management; Retention and Exit.
  • Provide end to end advisory, coaching, strategy development and implementation across core Absa People processes including Organisational Design; Strategic Work and Workforce Planning; Succession Management; People Change Management; Compensation, Rewards and Benefits and Employee Relations in line with the Absa Group Limited policies, standards and target experiences.
  • Design and implement robust People MI reporting, data analysis and insights generation to facilitate data-driven people planning and decision making
  • Use data analytics to diagnose business issues, generate insights and recommend effective solutions.

Accountability: Capability Building

  • Build leadership team and line manager capability in owning and executing the target Absa People experience as a personal and business priority.
  • Keep abreast of relevant people trends and best practices, and translate these into valuable insights and high impact actions for the business and broader People community across Absa. 

Accountability: Risk Management and Governance

  • Identify and take accountability for all relevant People risks in terms of the AGL Operating Model and Risk Management Framework and ensure that adequate controls and monitoring mechanisms are in place.
  • Promote and role model a culture of proactive compliance and risk management within executive and management teams, and the function as a whole. 

Employee Relations

  • Manage to end to end process of restructuring people within the bank including redeployment and redundancy form a people perspective within timescales and budget.
  • Lead the disciplinary, grievance and capability process on an end to end basis.
  • Manage all litigation and employment tribunal cases as applicable.  
  • Ability to tap on potential of subsidiaries though leadership style, motivation and recognition.  

People Management

  • Manage and develop subsidiaries in line with established people management processes. 
  • Ability to tap on potential of subsidiaries though leadership style, motivation and recognition.  

Mandatory Risk and Control objective

  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements,
  • Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Absa Policies and Policy Standards. Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role

Role/Person Specification

Preferred Education:

  • A degree in Human Resource Management

Preferred Experience:

  • At least 5 years recent experience as a People Partner in a medium/large business and/or working as a senior human capital consultant in a top consultancy
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of emerging people management best practices and technologies
  • Successful track record of developing effective people management solutions that have facilitated achievement of business strategy and objectives
  • Solid people management experience, preferably with a MTN company.
  • Financial industry experience
  • Significant People Partner experience
