Job Description
What is the opportunity?
The Associate Director is primarily responsible for credit adjudication of transactions within the Bank’s Commercial Financial Services Market within their delegated lending authority or within their assigned portfolio. The incumbent will have adjudication responsibilities that are focused on maintaining the risk profile, alignment with the business, operational effectiveness, efficiency in management of assigned portfolios, and enhancing the client experience.
The Associate Director also provides assistance to their teammates and shares best practices. This role balances the rewards of meeting business objectives with the risk of loss to client and shareholders, following corporate compliance and polices to maintain risk exposure within the Bank’s stated risk appetite, operate within a legal framework and in accordance with OSFI, Basel, and other regulatory requirements. This position reports to the Director, Group Risk Management who, in turn, reports to the Regional Director GRM Commercial, Quebec and Atlantic.
What will you do?
- Champions client experience initiatives and applies a continuous improvement approach to achieve superior client experience levels
- Enhances change management by ensuring how we approach change is reflective of a One RBC mindset
- Takes ownership of client problems at first point of contact. Ensures clients and colleagues are treated with respect, empathy and integrity contributing to good working relationships
- Demonstrates commitment to teamwork by building team capability, identifying opportunity spotting to enhance client relationship and improve RBC revenue, and, via the CAM, introduce clients to RBC-wide services and expertise through referrals
- Ensures team is strategically aligned with business strategies while maintaining the Bank’s desired risk profile
- Demonstrates leadership and commitment to build/expand/leverage good working relationships with the relevant GU(s) executive and CFS personnel to promote a mindset that risk is everybody’s business, that early problem identification is critical to maintaining the risk profile and in maximizing retention opportunities
- Ensures accurate and consistent processes/controls are in place and being followed to protect shareholder interests
- Ensures credit transactions are adjudicated within Policy Guidelines, Standards, and Procedures
What do you need to succeed?
Must-Have
- Bilingualism (English and French) required, as you will regularly serve our clients and do business with RBC partners and/or employees across Canada with English and French speaking needs.
- Demonstrated credit skills. Ideally proven through 4-7 years Commercial Account Management, Commercial Credit Underwriting, or Commercial Credit Adjudication experience.
- Strong analytical, organizational skills and critical thinking skills to make sound decisions and solve problems under pressure, in a team environment.
- Strong communication (written and verbal), coaching, and conflict resolution skills.
- Undergraduate degree, ideally in business or finance.
Nice-To-Have
- In-depth knowledge of RBC Risk Policies, Procedures, Practices, and Folios etc.
- Proficiency with Bank Technology especially Synergy and Newton
- Sound understanding of the role of second line of defence risk governance
