Job Summary:
The unit has 12 OR suites in the main hospital and 6 state of the art operating rooms in the Outpatient Center for Advanced Care. The surgical services division also provides pre and post-operative care focusing on the education of patients and families and providing smooth transitions between settings for the best patient outcomes. The OR performs all specialty surgeries except transplants and offers state-of-the-art equipment and services.
Team Lead Resource will develop, coordinate and implement the activities for new employee orientation, training programs, and continuing education for all nursing staff. Ensures the development of employees to the established competent level of performance.
Job Description
Provides orientation to new employees and serves as a technical resource, role model and/or preceptor for staff. Identifies and meets the professional development needs of the staff and performance expectations of the department.
Develops, coordinates and presents educational programs and opportunities within the department. Communicates to nurses from surrounding hospitals and facilitates their enrollment in appropriate educational offerings. Assesses the educational needs and learning barriers of the designated individual, patient care unit or clinic. Summarizes program evaluations and reports findings to appropriate individuals.
Evaluates and revises curriculum based on research, best practice and/or professional standards. Acts as a consultant for educational issues and provides feedback regarding overall educational approach.
Maintains records as required by the DNV and hospital administration.
Develops, plans, coordinates and implements in-service and continuing education programs and activities. Arranges for, completes and forwards room set-up requests in a timely manner. Responsible for setting up and operating audiovisual equipment.
Assists with competency management, which includes using tools that capture objective and subjective data regarding an individual’s knowledge base and actual performance.
Collaborates with system and operational leadership to meet the education needs of the site and nursing departments.
Adjusts materials and teaching strategies appropriate to the situation and the learner’s developmental level, learning needs, readiness, ability to learn, language preference, and culture. Implementation reflects awareness of scope of practice of different employees and disciplines. Uses assisted aids/technologies as needed to meet learners need.
Develops and supports education needs based on specialty or department in collaboration with regional and system teams.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Position Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with Current IL RN license
- BSN required
- 3 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room
- Current AHA CPR
- Certifications/education required for the nursing specialty (CNOR) within 2 years of hire
- Ability to communicate effectively and work cohesively with a diverse work group
- Good communication skills
- Good time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with time constraints.
- This position needs to recognize needs and behaviors of specific age groups of patients treated.
- Ability to transport objects, patients, and equipment
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other team member, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
