About The Department
The Client Technology team at Aberdeen focuses on delivering exceptional experiences for colleagues and clients by placing them at the centre of everything we do. The Technology function drives the strategic direction and management of all IT systems, including system design, programming, network and budget planning, database management, and operations. The Application Development & Support area develops and maintains all internal and external applications, while the Web, Mobile, and Front End team ensures seamless user experiences through expert design and support of distributed, object-oriented systems.
About The Role
We’re looking for a proactive and skilled Software Engineer with strong experience in React, Next.js, and modern front-end tooling to join our Client Technology Engineering team. You’ll be responsible for building high-quality, scalable web applications that span across multiple digital products, including those integrated into a broader technology ecosystem. In the client technology team we strive to give our colleagues and clients an exceptional experience, and we focus on putting them at the heart of what we do.
This role involves working with a cloud-native front-end platform optimised for performance, edge delivery, and seamless integration with marketing and content systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain modern web applications using React and Next.js
- Build reusable UI components and document them using Storybook
- Ensure all front-end code meets accessibility standards (WCAG) and delivers inclusive user experiences
- Implement SEO best practices, including meta tags, structured data (schemas), and performance optimization
- Collaborate with designers, backend engineers, and marketing teams to deliver seamless user journeys across multiple web-based solutions
- Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment
- Work with a modern front-end hosting platform that supports edge functions, serverless APIs, and global CDN
- Develop and maintain modern web applications using React and Next.js
- Build reusable UI components and document them using Storybook
- Ensure all front-end code meets accessibility standards (WCAG) and delivers inclusive user experiences
- Implement SEO best practices, including meta tags, structured data (schemas), and performance optimization
About The Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Strong proficiency in React.js and Next.js, and experience with TypeScript and SSJS
- Experience with cloud services such as Azure, especially for package management (e.g., Azure Artifacts)
- Experience with Storybook for component development and documentation
- Solid understanding of CI/CD processes and tools
- Strong knowledge of web accessibility standards and best practices
- Experience implementing SEO strategies and structured data (JSON-LD schemas)
