What We Are Looking For:

Stem is seeking a detail-oriented and technically minded Data Operations Analyst to join our rapidly growing business operations team. The accuracy and timeliness of our data services is fundamental to Stem's service offering. You will play a key role in daily operations of our fleet of distributed energy resources by managing critical data imports from utility partners and ensuring data quality across all systems. This role offers significant opportunity to learn the energy storage business and develop expertise in utility data operations, while working with cutting-edge clean energy technology platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily Utility Data Imports: Execute and monitor daily imports of utility interval meter data and billing data from California utilities (SCE, PG&E, SDG&E) and other utility sources including UtilityAPI, Green Button, APX, and MV90 systems. Ensure data completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of all data feeds.
  • Data Quality Monitoring: Run systematic data quality checks on live systems to identify missing data, anomalies, or data feed interruptions. Document issues and coordinate resolution with utilities and internal teams. Monitor automated email alerts and respond to data quality flags.
  • Utility Authorization Management: Coordinate with Customer Operations to facilitate utility data authorizations. Work with utility representatives to set up new data connections, verify Service Account IDs (SAIDs), and configure Usage Point UUIDs in Salesforce for Green Button authorizations.
  • Utility Relationship Management: Serve as a point of contact for utility partners, particularly California IOUs. Coordinate with utility account representatives to troubleshoot SFTP connections, resolve data delivery delays, and maintain positive working relationships. Respond to utility communications regarding system changes or data format updates.
  • Technical Operations Support: Work with EC2 servers, GroveStreams, and Python/SQL scripts to execute data import processes. Learn to use tools like Postman, WinSCP, and MySQL Workbench. Support ad-hoc data backfills when needed.
  • Process Documentation: Maintain and update Confluence documentation for data import workflows, utility contact information, and troubleshooting procedures. Create training materials for team members on utility-specific import processes.
  • Go-Live Support: Perform data quality validations for new sites preparing to go live. Verify meter provisioning and data availability before systems enter commercial operation.
  • Performance analysis:  Learn and support Stem’s on-going performance analysis process and annual Performance Guarantee process; Take the lead in identifying opportunities for improvement in processes, tools, and contract language.

Required Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience in data operations, data analysis, or related technical roles
  • Strong technical aptitude with ability to learn Python, SQL, and Linux/command line tools
  • Technical experience with advanced Excel modeling including formulas, pivot tables, and data validation
  • Exceptional attention to detail with demonstrated high degree of speed and data accuracy
  • Strong quantitative analytical skills with demonstrated proficiency with technical concepts
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple daily tasks and coordinate across different utility timelines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with utility partners and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently on routine tasks while knowing when to escalate issues
  • Problem-solving mindset with systematic approach to troubleshooting data issues
  • Willingness to learn about electricity markets, utility tariffs, and time-series data

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with large datasets and data analysis using Python, SQL, Salesforce.com, Tableau and reporting tools
  • Experience working with external partners or vendors
  • Understanding and demonstrated interest in time-series data, electrical utilities, utility tariffs, and renewable energy
  • Passion for leveraging AI to improve processes and data quality.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Physics, Data Science, or related field, or equivalent experience

Location: US Remote in the Pacific or Mountain Time Zones

Salary Range

$82,560.00 - $123,840.00
