Job Title: Non-Destructive Inspection Technician (NDI) II
Location: FRCW China Lake
Task Description:
Non-Destructive Inspection Technician (NDI) II, WG-3705-10: Inspects aerospace weapon systems components and support equipment for structural integrity using nondestructive inspection methods and performs fluid analysis. Determines test method, and prepares fluids and parts for nondestructive inspection. Interprets nondestructive inspection test results, and provides information about defects to repair center. Analyzes wear metal content on engine lubricating oil and other fluids, and recommends corrective action. Establishes radiation areas for radiographic operations. Computes and monitors personal exposure areas for radiographic operations, and monitors personnel exposure data. Performs nondestructive inspection on structures, components, and systems. Detects flaws such as cracks, delaminations, voids, processing defects, and heat damage using penetrant, eddy current, magnetic particle, radiographic, optical, and ultrasonic test equipment. Determines metallurgical information of components according to alloy, temper, conductivity, and associated factors. Operates, maintains, and inspects nondestructive equipment. Performs operator maintenance and service inspections on shop equipment and tools. Ensures lock out and tag out procedures are accomplished prior to maintenance on equipment. Performs silver recovery functions. Handles and disposes of hazardous waste and materials. Completed initial Non-Destructive Inspection Training Course and maintains basic qualification.
Must be trained and certified in accordance with NAS 410 - NAS Certification & Qualification of Nondestructive Test Personnel.
Responsibility: To perform Intermediate level maintenance and modifications on SE, IMRL and aircraft components in the physical custody of Fleet Readiness Center West Detachment China Lake, in support of VX-9 and VX-31 and outlying areas covered under the IMRL program.
Additional Qualifications: Non-Destructive Inspector / Non-Destructive Tester’s purpose is to apply inspection techniques such as Ultrasonic NDT (UT), Radiography NDT (RT), Eddy Current NDT (ET), Magnetic Particle NDT (MT), and Dye Penetrant NDT (PT) on parts, components, or complete systems of jet aircraft engines and associated equipment. Using non-destructive processes, performs inspections of engine and, ground support equipment, etc, parts and components, support equipment structural members, components, parts, and other materials. Sets up and adjusts equipment and calibrates for tests to be performed. Inspects aerospace weapon systems components and support equipment for structural integrity using nondestructive inspection methods. Conducts nondestructive inspections on engines, Automated Ground Equipment (AGE), and aircraft components and parts. Uses appropriate inspection equipment to detect, identify, and measure subsurface cracks, material flaws, corrosion, or separations in metals or honeycomb structure of engine and aircraft and components thereof. Based on indications, technical data, etc., determines the type of flaw or condition and reports info to supervisor, engineers, and technicians. Prepares and performs oil analysis to determine the identity and amount of small metal particles suspended in the oil taken from engines. Evaluates sample results of aircraft propulsion systems, gas turbine engines, and miscellaneous equipment. Must be NAS 410 certified, minimum level 1 (or the USAF equivalent of).
Skill And Knowledge:
- Must be knowledgeable of technical directives, NAMP programs, and shall be knowledgeable of and understand basic supply procedures.
- Non-Destructive Inspection Technician (NDI) II shall have experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy and exhibit effective leadership qualities and ensure adherence to all applicable policies and procedures.
- Possess a high degree of expertise in the control and coordination of aircraft maintenance.
- Thorough working knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals and publications.
- Thorough working knowledge of aircraft maintenance records.
- Working understanding of the aircraft and aircraft systems
Task Requirements:
- Process Visual Information Display System/Maintenance Action Forms (VIDS/MAF) from aircrew or maintenance technicians in accordance with OPNAVINST 4790.2 Series, Navy, and Company Instructions.
- Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
- Maintenance Control planning and management.
- Aircraft maintenance action documentation via logs, records, forms, and electronic means
- Support Equipment (SE operation and inspections.
- Corrosion Control/Aircraft Painting.
- Troubleshooting
- Preservation/de-preservation.
- General Aircraft Maintenance.
- Ordnance handling, limited to unjamming related equipment/ALSS maintenance.
- Technical Directive compliance and modifications.
- Individual Material Readiness List (IMRL), and Metrology and Calibration (METCAL) Program Management.
- Maintain Aircraft, Engines, and SE Logbooks.
- Aviation Life Support System (ALSS) Maintenance.
- Central Technical Publications Library Programs Management
- Dispersed Technical Publications Librarian
- Use hand tools, power tools, machines, specific and general aviation test measurement and diagnostic equipment.
- Perform general housekeeping and organization of workstation(s), shop(s), maintenance facility to provide a clean, safe, and FOD free environment
- Perform shift work and/or overtime as required
- Perform other tasks as directed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ten years NAS 410 Level II qualified / certified.
- Ten years extensive knowledge of Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP).
- Familiarity and ability to use military tech manuals.
Basic Qualifications:
- Individual (I) Aircraft Maintenance Qualification
- NAS 410 Level II qualified / certified.
- Must be able to work 1st, 2nd, 3rd and weekend shift schedule as required.
- Must be able work flexible work-week schedules i.e. Mon-Fri, Sun-Thur, Fri-Mon or as required.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must satisfactorily complete the equivalent of a trustworthy National Agency Check plus Written Inquiries with Credit Check (NACI), IAW DTM-08-003 “Next Generation Common Access Card (CAC) Implementation Guidance”.
- Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms, and aircraft.
- Must be able to use hand and power tools.
- Must have dexterity to handle small parts.
- Must be able to deploy to support off station exercises and perform other support duties as assigned.
Compensation
$53.46/Hour
