This role involves contributing to the development, enhancement, and maintenance of CAPA, ensuring its seamless integration and robust performance within the Red Hat ACM ecosystem. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of Go, Kubernetes internal architecture, public cloud infrastructure (AWS), and open-source development practices. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of cloud-native multi-cluster management, driving a core component that enables customers to provision and manage clusters at scale across AWS.

  • Develop and Maintain CAPA: Design, implement, and test new features, performance improvements, and bug fixes for the Cluster API Provider for AWS (CAPA), written in Go.
  • Red Hat OpenShift Integration: Deeply integrate CAPA features and lifecycle management into the Red Hat ACM product, ensuring a best-in-class multi-cluster management experience for AWS.
  • Open-Source Contribution: Actively participate in the upstream CAPI and CAPA communities, submitting proposals, code, and reviews to advance the project.
  • Cloud Infrastructure Expertise: Utilize in-depth knowledge of AWS services (EC2, VPC, IAM, etc.) to ensure reliable and efficient cluster provisioning.
  • Testing and Quality: Design and implement unit tests, end-to-end (E2E) tests, and integration tests to maintain high code quality and reliability.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex issues related to cluster provisioning, reconciliation loops, and AWS API interactions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Product Management, Quality Engineering, and other Red Hat development teams (e.g., OpenShift) to align on features and delivery timelines.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation for the features and components developed.

What you will bring

  • 5+ years of professional experience in software development, with a significant focus on cloud-native technologies.
  • Expert proficiency in Go programming language.
  • Deep understanding of Kubernetes architecture, including controllers, custom resource definitions (CRDs), operators, and the scheduler.
  • Solid practical experience with AWS infrastructure and APIs.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Podman) and orchestration (Kubernetes, OpenShift).
  • Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows (e.g., Pull Requests, code reviews).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with Cluster API (CAPI) and a strong understanding of its provider model and reconciliation logic.
  • Proven experience developing or contributing to Cluster API Providers, with a strong preference for CAPA.
  • Prior experience with Red Hat OpenShift or Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management (ACM).
  • Familiarity with other CAPI providers (e.g., CAPZ, CAPV).
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or Ansible.
  • Active contributor to large-scale open-source projects.
  • Strong understanding of network configurations, security, and IAM best practices in AWS.
